I dont think it was that big of an accomplishment for Miss.State or Auburn.. anybody could have won 20 with their schedules.

I wonder if Bruce Pearl wishes they would have played not such a soft OOC schedule.
Could have made them better prepared for the post season.

This feels worse than the Shula years when Bama would go 6-6 and the fans would defend it with "at least we're bowl eligible!"

I mean they played MTSU OOC and that was it....and they didnt even make the tournament.
And even in conference they played one of the easier schedules and Caught UT when they were in the middle of losing 3 out of 5, caught Arkansas when they lost 4 of 5, and played UK during their 4 game losing streak.

There'll likely be a number of negative comments here because, for some reason, many SEC fans seem to take the "glass half empty" approach to new levels when criticizing their basketball programs.
However, this season was certainly another huge step forward.
Proof is not even in the actual W-L records but more importantly in the sheer amount of good OOC wins the league secured -- something missing the past few years.
The NCAA tourney was a bit of a letdown since no team outside of Villanova has seemed an insurmountable task to upset. SEC teams mainly played to their seeding, so no real negative. However, seems the chance was there for any of the SEC teams to get to the Elite 8.
I mean that in the sense that there's really not much difference between Florida St, Kansas St and any of the other 7-10 seeds --mainly just getting hot or matchups.
However, the tourney is a crapshoot in many ways and the important thing is just to keep getting into it and good things (favorable draw/upsets in your bracket etc) will eventually happen.

There is no way it feels worse than that.

State is going to end up leading the SEC in wins.

Bruce Pearl probably wishes they didn't lose their best defender in the last couple of weeks of the season.

They still couldn’t shoot to save their lives the last few games. That one player doesn’t affect that

It absolutely did. Nothing about that team was the same once he went down.

quote:Neither does playing a different schedule in December. Harper started to struggle and then Heron and Brown started playing one on one hero ball. They lost the offensive identity that made them so good for most of the season. I'm not sure if the added pressure of playing with fewer players or a different rotation was the primary cause, or if it was just one of those late season slides unrelated to the mclemore injury.

Bruce Pearl needed to put up a bunch of wins to save his job. But he did that and more. He exceeded everyone's expectations this year.
I think the only thing he regrets is not figuring out how to get Wiley eligible.

Kinda like Bama's football schedule.

Ask AK how much 20 wins means in this league. Doesn't mean shite.
Ben Howland will have this program at 27 28 wins next season and I could easily see that team making a run. Gonna be a good year in Starkville
