Some of these guys today are unbelievable athletes.

Marlon Humphrey, for example, won a silver medal at the 2013 World Youth Championships in the Ukraine, in high school.

Yes they are, so it's foolish for anyone to think footballers from 40ish years ago can hang with the bigger, faster and stronger athletes of today.

Like I mentioned right now today Alabama has 18 300 pounders, wow!!!! The whole NFL in 85 had...one.

Hell, the top Bama RB a 225 pounder.

No Alabama team could beat LSU 2020. Try again

The only advantage Bama would have is schemes. There has been quite a revolution in offensive schemes since the ‘80s.

That might be partially due to rule changes or interpretations.

As for size, even being smaller the average talent on the lines would far favor the Bears.

To answer the question more generally, yes, I think a college national championship team in the 2020’s would beat the ‘85 Bears.

There's so much wrong with this from the start.

I mean, if you're gonna make this kind of comparison (which is ridiculous), wouldn't it be better to choose last year's Bama or this year's UGA (at the moment). You'd still be wrong, but why choose a team that's already lost once and almost lost another?

I'm a rookie? You're the one posting offseason threads half way through the schedule.

IDK man, I think I have to disagree with you on this one.

Apparently the Bears averaged 28.5 ppg and gave up 12.4.

I think with today's offenses, that second number sky-rockets, and I'm not sure they could keep pace.

You're right about their physicality (like Singleton), but I'm not sure they were conditioned for today's track meets.

Not to take anything away from those guys, of course, it was just a different era.

Today's offenses wouldn't work in that era. The first time a guy goes over the middle and gets his head knocked off, the rest of the receivers are going to be like - NOPE.

So he can play vs the monsters he faced in the NCAA but couldn't handle the smaller, slower, weaker players in the 80's, hahahaha!!!!!!!!!!

Sure a lot of rookies here, ha!!!

Yeah, they didn't protect the QBs in the 80's the way they do now.

Where do you get the Bears having any advantages?

Dude, the size/speed advantage for Bama would be overwelming.

You really don't get how superior athletes are today than 40ish years ago? Just watch a high school game.

Wrong!

The minute these 300 pound linemen start bulldozing those 270 pound D line it's over.

Bama has five 300 pounders on that offensive line, a 225 pound running back faster than Walter Payton. Now tell me how do the Bears stop that, well?

And five 300 pounders backing those 300 pounders up.

Once again you seem to be confused about the size of Alabama's starters.

What is the weight of Alabama offensive line?

Image result for size of alabama starting offensive line
329 pounds

With four returning starters in Leatherwood, Neal, Dickerson and Deonte Brown, Alabama's line carries an average weight of 329 pounds and height of 6-foot-5.Jun 23, 2020

So 6-5 329....so what do the little Bears do?

How do the Bears deal with this?

Ignoring that you linked the 2020 O-Line, not the 2021, basically if you've watched Alabama play this year, you just run around them on the edge.
