For those that want an 8 team playoff, you actually have it this season.
First Round is for seeding:
Auburn/Alabama
Clemson/Miami
Oklahoma/TCU
Wisconsin/Ohio State
It's clear that.. USC won't make it in and UGA is a year away and will lose to whoever wins the Iron Bowl, in the SEC Championship.

Oh, well someone needs to tell them not to even go to SECCG, might as well just forfeit.

Auburn/Alabama
Only if Auburn wins this weekend. A 3-loss team that didn't win their conference wouldn't even be in an 8 team playoff.

It'll be the same outcome either way. Auburn exposed UGA

12-0 Bama makes the SEC championship game irrelevant. 12-0 Alabama is IN the playoff. Period. A loss in that game would drop us to 4 at the lowest. No way we drop from #1 to #5. None.

16 teams would still be the best to get most all bases covered

WAY too many. We need SIX with the top 2 getting byes.

It is playoffs. Win and you're in, lose and you're out. That goes for each game. I will say, if TCU upsets, which will not happen, a one loss Bama, Miami and Wisconsin would probably get in before TCU.

The thing with expanding past 6 or 8 is that you start getting repetitive.
Think about it. Almost every one of the CG participants would be Top 16 teams at the end of the regular season. They then have to play another Top 16 team. So you just kick one out and let someone not in the Top 16 in because the other had to play an extra game against a Top 16 team? That's dumb.
If we are going to expand to 16 (I hope we don't), then you have to get rid of conference title games or institute them into the playoff.

That could very well be the case..

You are right. Let's call the committee exactly what it is: Cover for name brands making it for max TV revenue.
Sorry TCU, UCF, etc

FCS has 24, 16 is not too much by any stretch. Infact, going back to 11 game seasons would be so much better than 12 game season to cut out these shitty useless cupcake games.
With 16, you leave little doubt that everyone that deserves a shot, is getting it (like even say a undefeated mid-major).

I would never want to go higher than 8 because of too many rematches.. There could be a scenario this year, where Auburn would have to play Clemson, Bama and UGA again to win the natty.

My perfect scenario is moving to 8 and doing it in this way :
- P5 conference champions IF ranked in the Top 10
- 1 G5 team IF ranked in the Top 10
- 2 at large (at least)
The Top 10 would give some cover to years when there truly are not worthy G5 teams (last year as an example) and for years where there isn't a worthy team from a P5 league (Pac12 would be on the edge there).
So, this year, assuming Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State win out (just for the purposes here
1. Alabama (SEC Champ)
8. UCF (Top 10 G5)
2. Oklahoma (B12 Champ)
7. USC (P12 Champ)
3. Clemson (ACC Champ)
6. Georgia (At Large)
4. Miami (At Large)
5. Ohio State (B1G Champ)

Disagree. It waters the regular season down too much. We need 6 (5 conf champs plus an at large that would be UCF, ND, etc. this year). This will never happen because the committee wants control to be able to get the top name brand schools in for max TV rev and they make the rules up as they go in order to get there.

LOL @ the watering down regular season comment. We have 2 or 3 games against usually way overmatch OOC teams. How is that not watering down the regular season? Would you rather still watch Alabama play Mercer every year or play in an extra 2 playoff games?
Get rid of 1 OOC game, go back to 11 game season. Have 16 for the playoff. This would give everyone who has an argument their shot.

You left out Ohio State..
Ok, i see it changed. So, a one loss Wisconsin gets left out. I would agree with that due to their strength of schedule..
