I’m not concerned with Georgia, I wouldn’t rank us right now either. I’m moreso just pointing out that Florida is in virtually the same boat as us but is being propped up artificially because they were ranked so high preseason. Neither should be ranked right now.

Biggest difference right now between UGA and UF is that Florida is 2-2 in league series while UGA is 1-3 with a series loss to aTm(that UF swept).

Not taking up for UF because they were over ranked to begin the year.

But sure, that one extra conference win is the only difference between unranked and #15

Fine by me if you want to be the tallest midget. I really don't give a shite about being ranked in the bottom of the top 25 in baseball. Please don't leave out that fact that Georgia is 1-3 in conference series so far and UF is 2-2. That is a big deal. So yes if we had lost that one other game to Ole Miss I expect we would not be ranked. Also if you had just taken one more game from either Tennessee, A&M or Carolina, then you would be ranked.

So yes one game can matter a lot. If you had lost on Saturday you would be 0-4 in conference series this season and Vandy would still be #1, so don't act like one game cannot make a difference.

Please don’t leave out the fact that Georgia has not been swept in any of its series (unlike Florida).

Yeah that’s not true at all. Had we taken an extra game off A&M, for example, we would still be where we are. Had Florida lost one more game, they may be closer to 20 than 15 but would still be ranked. The rankings are biased toward the initial perceptions of the field to start the year. It’s not Florida’s fault that’s the case but they are the beneficiary.

Then you be sure not to leave out that UF has also swept a team in a series.

Well UF is 19 in one poll and 18 in another. Which is pretty close to 20 which is what Georgia is ranked in the collegiate baseball poll which you fail to mention.

LINK

But I know, UF is 6 spots higher that Georgia in that poll so OMG UF is soo overrated.

You are trying to trot out any nugget that works for your argument and none of the facts that work against your argument. It's like you can't see anything that works in UF's favor.

Quit being such a homer and a Gator hater.

Georgia looked really good this weekend and you will have your chance to shut the pollsters and Gator fans up later in the season, so have a little patience. You are a good baseball fan, and you know all these things.

Yes I am not confused. We are the underachievers of the early part of the season, and I hope we can change the path we are on.

Our pitching wouldn't hold up in Omaha at the moment.

I would argue that our pitching is much more suited for Omaha right now than it is for a Fri-Sat-Sun (or Sat-Sat-Sun in Oxford) weekend series. For one, having a day off between games in Omaha ensures Kopps can be available more of the time. Also, keeping our bullpen fresh gives some insurance against the wobbly start we usually see from at least one weekend starter.

I think if we are capable of finding ways to win weekend series the way we are now (on the road against good competition), then stringing together pitching that is good enough to allow our offense to stay ahead of the opponent, we are actually built pretty well for Omaha.

You’re missing my point.

UGA and Florida are, for all intents and purposes, almost identical right now. But only one of them is ranked in the poll that actually matters (D1Baseball matters. Baseball America kind of matters. The rest are basically fan polls that hold no weight over national perception).

Florida is ranked because D1 held them in such high esteem preseason (and rightfully so based on what was coming back) that they aren’t being allowed to fall out. My gripe isn’t with what Florida has or hasn’t done or whether or not Georgia should be ranked (it won’t ultimately have any influence on who makes the tournament anyway). My gripe is with polls that do have influence on national perception being way too beholden to their own Re season projections.

Admittedly I’m nitpicking something that I shouldn’t waste this much time on but it’s Monday and I’m on a Zoom meeting with dozens of other people who aren’t listening either.

I gotcha. No worries, carry on.

We were definitely overrated, but the talent is there and these jokers (pollsters) like to be right, so they are going to give us every opportunity to prove them right and we have done just enough to justify being ranked. Put us a 5-7 and getting swept again or losing the series to Ole Miss, and I think we are pretty much in the same neighborhood as Georgia. We just have a bunch of our studs who are struggling right now and if they can turn it around, we are a completely different team.

Looking at you Fabian, McMullen, Rivera and others.

In D1 Baseball's rankings, Arkansas has played or will play 5 of the Top 10, and 7 of the Top 12.

Mostly SEC, but also beat Texas, TCU and Texas Tech earlier in the year.

We might be a Wagon.

Don't sell us short. We took 2 out of 3 at #14 LA Tech this season, too. They are a very good team. We have a killer road record. I think they've all been against ranked opponents, too.
