They finished with their 3rd best record of the 90s, so not really. The LSU we know today began with Saban.

While this is somewhat true, the LSU of the 30’s-80’s was dramatically, hilariously better than the LSU of the 90’s.

You already knew that, but people like you who are jealous of LSU’s success feel the need to knock our history pre-2000. Sad!

I somewhat knew that, but if I'm being honest, I've been watching college football since the mid-70s and I never thought of LSU as a football powerhouse until the Saban years. I considered LSU a basketball school, but I can look back and see that LSU was better than I realized. I still wouldn't say that LSU was great, though.

Edit: I also wasn't knocking LSU's success pre-2000. I was just noting that LSU wasn't the powerhouse it's become since. In hindsight, I now realize that the 90s was a bad decade for LSU, but I honestly didn't know that back then.

It was pretty common at that time and earlier to go for the tie even if you had the better record

Yeah well if we had been playing Rice, Baylor, Texas Tech, Houston, and SMU every week like Arky was in those days we would have done a lot more with it than you did.

Dear lord, LSU has had I think one decade of sustained success in bball in the modern era. Weren't even good with Pete Maravich iirc. You could've said that it was a baseball school in the 90s though

We were already in the SEC in the 90s. I'm talking before then. I remember when LSU basketball went to the Final Four in the early 80s and knocked Arkansas out of the tournament one year. There was another good year in the 80s, IIRC.

In contrast, I didn't even know that LSU had ever been good in football back then. My first recollection of LSU football was when they resumed the series with A&M and I couldn't understand why ESPN was making a big deal out of it. Now I get it, because LSU had been better than I realized.

What a sorry era of Gamecock football that was. And that's saying something for a program like South Carolina. Oh and frick you Brad Scott.

Was there for the game. W-B had a capacity of 72400 in 1995 before th South EZ expansion for 1996.

Taneyhill lost 2 fumbles that day. Jamie Howard lost 1. There were a million penality flags in the game and probably 15+ QB sacks between both team.

Fat Bradstard Scott trotted out our "other" FG kicker with about 40 seconds 4Q tied at 20 to try a 52 yarder to break the tie. USC / Reed Morton had to kick 2 short FGs earlier in the game after drives stalled inside the RZ. Monty Means caught Taneyhill's only TD pass on the day and Duce Staley ran wild for about a buck-50.

Eddie Kennison had what seemed to be a million catches for easily over 100 yards. Kevin Faulk was held in check by our shite defense somehow.

Lots of drinks with LSU fans outside W-B before/after the game that day.

Fat Bradstard Scott and his shithesd son Jeff too
