I am not liking the list! One I know for sure is Josh Heupel! No way he is going to get a top Power 5 HC. He is not that good overall. I was glad he was gone from Mizzou as the OC.
Then you have the Leach. If Leach will not get it done then what make you think Heupel will?

The Tom Herman summary is laughable from the start...
quote:

The Nick Saban coaching tree always falls short of winning titles, but the Urban Meyer tree has been impressive. From Dan Mullen to Ryan Day, the coach set to make a big jump in the next few years is Texas coach Tom Herman

So I guess Jimbo doesn't count from Saban's tree? He's actually won a title compared to the guys listed from Urban's tree.
quote:

Does Texas make the big breakthrough this season? I have my doubts, but Texas is Texas.

A lot of good simply being Texas has done over the last decade.
quote:

Herman is an incredible coach. He's the best coach Texas has had since Mack Brown

In other words, he's better than Charlie Strong. Impressive.

Quote in the article from Malzahn regarding Bo Nix:

quote:

“Physically, he’s got what it takes. Mentally, he’s got what it takes. He loves Auburn and he has a chip on your shoulder. That's the formula. So I think he's got a real chance.”

I hope the “chip on your shoulder” quote is a misquote. It creates a rather odd image.

Does anyone even edit the articles to weed out silly statements like “best coach since....” when the current coach is only the second coach since .....?

And I guess Fisher wasn’t a Saban tree guy.

Makes one wonder if the writer has a clue.

Why? They will have a really good shot to go 11-1 or perhaps 12-0 in the regular season. Then its wide open if they make the seccg

The Nittany Lions host Ohio State this season, and my prediction is whichever team wins that game will go on to win the national title.

No kidding. He got absolutely out coached by Stoops in the Citrus Bowl two years ago. It was glorious to see that smug fricks smile fall off his face.

fricking James Franklin is not closer to a national title than Smart, Riley, or even Mullen

I noticed that. Not so subtle troll by the author. Gives the usual QB whisperer narrative, but does not mention that the QB whisperer was riding Felipe Franks over Trask (and nearly losing to UK) until he was injured. That was coaching malpractice, as was Mullen's coaching in the UGA game.

It makes sense considering they have a much easier schedule.

James Franklin is the bullshite one in my opinion,

It should be
Day - Best positioned to win it this year
Riley - OU has the easiest path to the CFP outside of Clemson
Smart - A competent offense away from being back in the title game
Mullen - a step behind Smart, will be in contention if he can figure out how to get past Georgia
Franklin - has done little to suggest PSU is anything other than a competitive 10 win program
Malzahn - same as Franklin at Auburn but has to go through Bama, Georgia, and LSU every year
Kelly - Notre Dame will never be anything more than a program that takes up a spot in the CFP some years. Don’t have the depth or team talent to compete with the Bamas, OSUs, Clemsons by end of season
Herman - Pfft yeah, sure

Heupel doesn’t even belong on the list until he is at a P5 program.

Different subject, but how do you determine whose "Tree" you're from when you have coached for multiple head coaches? Fisher was an assistant under Terry Bowden the longest. He was also an assistant at Cincinnati for one year before serving under Saban, Miles, and finally Bobby Bowden.
