Music City Bowl – Projection: Virginia Tech vs. Kentucky

Texas Bowl — Projection: Iowa State vs. Auburn

Another seven-win regular season for Auburn might be it for coach Gus Malzahn, who takes over control of the offense this season as the Tigers' primary play-caller. Auburn's schedule isn't conducive to success considering the questions on offense and the Vegas over-under win total of 8 suggests this team could take another step back.

quote:

Belk Bowl

Where: Charlotte, N.C.

Projected matchup: Syracuse vs. Tennessee

Quick bite: One of these teams has sizable expectations coming off a banner year while the other is just hoping to hit the necessary threshold for a bowl berth. The Orange are deep enough to reach the New Year's Six, but we're giving that ACC bid to the projected Coastal Division champion. Under second-year coach Jeremy Pruitt, we have a feeling Tennessee will upset an opponent no one expects the Vols to this season.

quote:

Liberty Bowl

Where: Memphis, Tennessee

Projected matchup: South Carolina vs. Baylor

Quick bite: If the Gamecocks intend on getting to a more-desirable Florida-based postseason game this season, they're going to have to find a way to win at least seven games against the nation's toughest schedule and that won't likely happen. They're one of only two teams in college football that battles Alabama, Georgia and Clemson during the regular season.

quote:

Citrus Bowl

Where: Orlando, Fla.

Projected matchup: Nebraska vs. Texas A&M

Quick bite: How amped are Huskers fans about the possibilities this season with dynamic quarterback Adrian Martinez entering Year 2 under Scott Frost's tutelage? If there's a darkhorse conference title contender in the Big Ten, Nebraska should be the heavily-circuited choice. The Aggies aren't quite there yet, but they will be.

quote:

Outback Bowl

Where: Tampa, Fla.

Projected matchup: Wisconsin vs. Mizzou

Quick bite: For this to happen, we're projecting that Mizzou wins its appeal before the NCAA Infractions Committee and the Tigers' 2019 bowl ban is lifted. And here's to a bounceback season from the Badgers with potential Heisman finalist Jonathan Taylor eclipsing the 2,000-yard plateau before heading to the NFL.

quote:

Gator Bowl

Where: Jacksonville, Fla.

Projected matchup: Penn State vs. Mississippi State

Quick bite: Joe Moorhead and quarterback Tommy Stevens against their former team? This one has all the trappings of must-watch football for Penn State fans. The Nittany Lions will play in a Florida-based bowl game this season, but it won't be the Citrus in Orlando.

quote:

NEW YEAR'S SIX GAMES

quote:

Orange Bowl

When: Jan. 1, 2020

Where: Hard Rock Stadium; Miami Gardens, Fla.

Projected matchup: Virginia vs. Florida

Quick bite: Underrated no more, Bryce Perkins and the Cavaliers took the defense-first mentality last season and that's not going to change with Bronco Mendenhall in charge. Could Virginia win the Coastal this time around and get to the ACC Championship Game vs. Clemson?  This ACC tie-in, by the way, is a shot in the dark.

quote:

Sugar Bowl

When: Jan. 1, 2020

Where: Mercedes-Benz Superdome; New Orleans, La.

Projected matchup: Oklahoma vs. LSU

Quick bite: Will the Longhorns win the Big 12? Those in Austin are confident that Texas will be in the mix, but we're not going to project it just yet. LSU gets the nod here as the SEC's third-best team and the first to miss out on the Playoff behind Alabama and Georgia.

quote:

CFB PLAYOFF SEMIFINAL (PEACH BOWL)

When: Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019

Where: Mercedes-Benz Stadium; Atlanta, Ga.

Projected matchup: No. 1 Clemson vs. No. 4 Alabama

Quick bite: We're going to see Clemson-Alabama again, but it won't be in the national championship game. After seeing its unbeaten season squashed in Atlanta a few weeks prior, the Crimson Tide squeak into the Playoff over one-loss Big 12 champion Oklahoma and one-loss Pac-12 champion Utah in a controversial final vote that gets the postseason expansion talks buzzing again. Dabo Swinney and Clemson, relatively untested for 13 games coming in, fall in a matchup Nick Saban seems to take personal. If these two meet in nearby Atlanta, it would be one of the toughest tickets in the sport's history.

quote:

CFB PLAYOFF SEMIFINAL (FIESTA BOWL)

When: Saturday, Dec. 28, 2019

Where: State Farm Stadium; Glendale, Ariz.

Projected matchup: No. 2 Georgia vs. No. 3 Michigan

Quick bite: Will Jim Harbaugh finally beat Ohio State and win the Big Ten? Should it happen, the Wolverines should reach the final four. At 12-1 following a win over unbeaten Alabama in the SEC Championship Game, the Bulldogs in this scenario jump from the No. 4 or 5 place team in college football to No. 2 in the final selection committee rankings prior to the Playoff. Putting Kirby Smart's team here would avoid a rematch with the Crimson Tide, at least in the semifinal round of the Playoff.

quote:

CFB PLAYOFF NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

When: Monday, Jan. 13, 2020

Where: Mercedes-Benz Superdome; New Orleans, La.

Projected matchup: No. 2 Georgia vs. No. 4 Alabama

Quick bite: Alabama's revenge tour comes full circle in the postseason this fall. After avenging January's loss to Clemson in the semifinal, Nick Saban turns the page on his first career loss to an assistant coach in the SEC title contest and beats Smart and the Bulldogs for his seventh career national championship, passing Paul 'Bear' Bryant for most all-time. In an epic clash of potential top-pick quarterbacks, Tagovailoa out-duels Jake Fromm in a memorable final game that mirrors the national title showdown from two years ago.

Citrus bowl

$75 million for the citrus bowl

What a bunch of sorry arse losers

I generally agree with this, but think AU will be better than expected and if LSU gets on a roll early, the schedule is very favorable.

Alcoholism in the state of Georgia will be able to point to this game as a big reason for its uptick.

I’d love that.
I miss playing Nebraska.
And it’d be fun going against ‘em with Scott Frost at the helm, whom we faced when he was a player at Nebraska.

Good point. Losses to MSU, LSU, AU, Bama, and Clemson should disqualify them from postseason play all together, IMO.

They really just need to rename it the Kentucky bowl already. Anytime we have an average season, 9 times out of 10 we go there it seems

State might as well buy a condo in jacksonville as many times this decade that we have played there and been projected there

I don’t think alcohol would get the job done. Maybe heroin

I would love this obviously, but the chances Georgia beats Bama in the SECCG are very, very low.

Sorry but 12-1 conference champion Oklahoma isn't getting skipped by 12-1 non champ bama.
