What makes a job better than others? 247Sports Director of Scouting Barton Simmons and I considered several factors for this list, including but not limited to program prestige, location, facilities, money and recruiting potential. In summation, it all boils down to this — if you were a Hall of Fame-caliber coach and had your pick of any job nationally, what would it be?

Congrats to Saban on holding two of the top jobs in CFB. I guess once he got the NFL itch out of his system, he had to settle for the next best thing.

And he’s taking the #10 job any day now

I know how liberal all of you texicans are now. It’s really cool to see how woke Kellen is too.

I wouldn't rank the Tide #1. The expectations are too high.

How is Oklahoma in a small state that doesn't produce much talent ahead of Texas? They win more, but that doesn't make it a better job. And ND??
I'd also rather coach at FSU or Miami than UF: much easier road to the playoff

UGA has jumped UF? Interesting.

I’d drop USC below OU and might drop Clemson a little as well.

It’s a joke that A&M isn’t #1, let alone the top 10. Get paid $1 million per win and have the fans talking about building a statue of you for delivering 7-5? Yeah, that’s the best CFB job.

USC and Texas don’t deserve to be on the list. Their is so much backstage drama and politics being played by those schools that it has to be a miserable experience.
The other 8 are basically interchangeable.

Having three consecutive coaches win national championships has been a game changer for the nationwide perception of LSU.
I'd have Ohio State number two. Florida should be top five, and imho would be number one if Mullen won a national championship because they would be THE school in THE state. Bama has the best turdition and will be hard to keep momentum because Saban is such a cult of personality and they may not be willing to let a coach develop. USC and OU have the misfortune of playing in non-competitive leagues.

Yep. Right or wrong, we expect progress within 3-4 years. If you haven't competed for the SEC in four years or tank the season in year number four, you're fired. You also have to beat Auburn...which Bill Curry found out after three years, even after winning the SEC in 1989. And the Bear is always hovering over your shoulder, casting a long shadow.
Saban was the first coach since perhaps Stallings not to be afraid of the pressures of the job and even established a legacy that might have surpassed that of Bear Bryant's. It's going to be difficult replacing him because it's rare to find a coach with the intangibles Saban possessed. Hopefully the athletic department doesn't go FR like they did after Bryant and hire Saban player after Saban player in the vain effort of finding someone who possesses his magic.
