quote:I've talked to several vets in my area regarding their opinion of the vet schools in our region, and they've told me that the interns coming out of Miss. St. were the most advanced of any of the vet schools in this part of the country (smaller classes, more hands-on training, etc.).
501-600 - Mississippi State University
I post this to say that there are too many aspects and particular needs to be able to rate schools for what an individual wants/needs.

People who brag about these rankings probably do so to make themselves feel better about their liberal arts degree.
ETA: lol at the 4 liberal arts majors who downvoted this comment.

Once they get past 100 or so, how can they really differentiate?

I don't need that liberal publication to know that UGA is 3rd academically in the SEC

I agree. I just post this shite because it jerks everybody's chain. It's like recruiting. The rankings don't matter so much as the need of the team (or in this case the region/state/business community). One of my buddies in my neighborhood is a Miss. State grad. Entrepreneur. Has made a ton of money in real estate. Great guy. Very shrewd and very smart.
It also matters what kind of demand there is in the state on the institutions. Here in Georgia we only have two top-tier public school options in state, and one is a very narrow curriculum. The combination of the lottery and the population explosion, there are way more kids applying to UGA and Tech than other states with more school options and less population. UGA snobs casually dismiss this, but it's true. As a result of the GA lottery, lots of really smart kids from Atlanta are going to surrounding schools like UT, AU, Bama, OM, Clemson, SC, Miss. St. etc.

Methodology
Survey data makes up 27% of these rankings and another 10% comes from diversity stats. Nobody should be getting their panties in a wad over this.
ETA- Another 11% comes from faculty per student which is naturally going to boost the private schools.
