So why is vandy #1 when they are projected to win 35 games?

The article says;
quote:

The Commodores enter the year as the top-ranked team in the country and look to be perhaps the most complete team in the nation. Vanderbilt returns eight regulars from its lineup, as well as its full rotation and some key relievers. The Commodores have five seniors on its roster, a luxury for a program that is used to seeing its players get drafted and sign as juniors. To that mix, Vanderbilt added the No. 2 recruiting class in the country. Vanderbilt is looking for its first SEC title since 2013, and this team has everything it needs to get back atop the standings.

Dang, did Arkansas lose their entire staff?

How are the runner-ups picked 5th in the West?

I'm sure you will, but that was last year's record.

Welcome to the SEC. We lost some good players but we recruited some good ones as well. Any potential sign of weakness in SEC baseball is enough to get you knocked back in the pack though.

If I had to make a guess I'd say Arkansas is a middle of the SEC pack team this year (top 15 in the country) and has a shot at being a national title contender next year. I suspect this is going to be another blood bath year in SEC play with some very good teams splitting series.

The SEC is loaded, not much difference between a lot of the teams IMO. 5th seems a little low but 3rd or 4th I could see.

We did lose our Friday and Saturday starters, one of our top bullpen arms, our RF, our SS, our 2B, our DH and our catcher. Kjerstad/Martin/Fletcher should be as good of a top of the lineup as anyone in the country, but a lot of new pieces around them.

Poor aggy, right at home with sixth in their division. That's next-to-last for any gomers reading.

I guess Major Aggy will sport the opposing baseball team's insignia all season long, like basketball. Poor sap wants everybody fired.

Preseason previews tend to favor what they know and punish for having new faces and we've got a good bit of them. Still have Campbell and Cronin and handful of key arms from last year, but we did lose our Friday and Saturday guys. Campbell will be our Friday guy as he should be. We definitely lost more pitching than we did bats as our young core of mashers is still intact with Martin, Fletcher, and Kjerstad returning. My guess is this year ends up being more of a reload than a rebuild as we have plenty of talent sitting behind the vacancies that opened up. How we play on the road will determine our final standing.

Florida too high. We lost 6 multi year starters including last year's player of the year (Jonathan India) and last year's pitcher of the year (Brady Singer). Also lost Saturday starter (Jackson Kowar), all time save leader (Michael Byrne), 4 year starting catcher/1st base (JJ Schwarz), and starting center fielder (Nick Horvath).

These preview's are so odd.

How do you pick Landon Marceaux as freshman of the year over JT Ginn?

Ginn is a better prospect all around. He's a mid 90's elite arm and was a first round draft pick strictly as a pitcher (Marceaux projected mid-late second round at the highest). He also has the chance to play both ways in college and can definitely be a force at the plate. He's quite possibly the most talented player in the nation to enroll this year.

Obviously these things aren't set in stone. There is no doubt Marceaux could have a great year and Ginn end up being a complete bust. But on paper it just seems asinine.

Alabama Goals
- Over .500
- get to 12-18 in SEC play
- still have an outside chance at Hoover/NCAAT on May 1

College baseball preseason stuff in particular is usually mostly guesswork based on hunches. To Kendall Rogers' credit, he did have us as a preseason national title finalist last year. He in particular is usually pretty good.

Sikkema could be placed in an MLB bullpen tomorrow. The SEC baseball depth is insane.
