Emerson Hancock was actually the best pitcher. No. 1 in ERA, opposing batting average, and runs allowed, and gave up 2 fewer hits almost the same number of innings pitched (0.1 innings less for Hancock).

Surprised Isaiah Campbell didn't make it but SEC is loaded with pitchers.

However Casey Opitz had better stats than Cooper Johnson in: pick offs, caught stealing, and passed balls. Figured he'd make the all-defensive team.

Really surprised Josh Smith didn't at least make second team

That's a pretty bad omission. His numbers almost match the 1st team selection.

Martin is an all offensive short stop, dude is a horrific defensive short stop. He had 20 errors this year and his fielding was barely over .900, Kessinger and Smith were way way way better defensively. I dont get that at all. Arkansas has some great hitters and he's one of them but Martin should in no way be 2nd team here at a defensive premium position.

Except he wasn’t the best pitcher and you are wrong.

Yeah for every error he made though he'd also make an incredible athletic play that not many shortstops can make. He's probably going to be a top 10 pick in next year's draft...rare combo of power and speed. Has 3 inside the park home runs this year.

These awards are always going to be slanted towards offense, same with basketball.

He was great.

But I'll take the word of the SEC coaches.

The more I look at this list the less and less it makes sense to me that Josh Smith didn’t make it. That’s the only major oversight I see though. There are a couple questionable ones but that’s a wtf one

Who was picking these selections, umpire Ryan Broussard?

Menefee is a LEFT handed pitcher.

Good grief

Relief pitcher?

The lineups at Mississippi State, Arkansas, and Vanderbilt are just insane.

There are several players who are Golden Spikes Award Semifinalists who didn't make the all-SEC teams if that tells you how loaded the conference is

How did Cooper Johnson get 2nd team catcher over Skelton?

Sketlon vs Cooper
Avg: .301 vs. .270
HR: 10 vs. 6
RBI: 46 vs. 24

The whole catching and throwing people out part of it...Johnson through out 45% of base runners and picked off two more...Skelton through out 34% of runners...Batting in conference it was .284 Johnson vs .292 for Skelton

Guy from UGA was the best in that stat though

List is shite. Based on the State series and the way it was called on TV, it should have been this. Announcers literally had to change their trousers every time he was at the plate.

For the trillionth time Josh Smith should have made it. I get that Martin made some outstanding plays but he had literally double the errors of Smith. He fielded a little over .900. That’s unacceptable for a SS.

It’s not just batting average period. The SEC is stacked. You can make several cases in each position.

Y’all beat Hancock because Hess decided to have the best game of his life coupled with a spectacular defensive play by your infield; you won 1-0
