AU’s 2019 team was also better than our 2017 team.

That's debatable. We had the SEC player of the year on the team that year and two guys that are currently on NBA rosters in PJ Dozier and Chris Silva. That team was nasty defensively.

That isn't an advantage when Duke is one of the opponents.

Eh. Most of Duke’s alumni base are from the Northeast and have been spoiled by their winning so probably wouldn’t have come down for a second round game against a 7 seed
UNC also played in the same Arena, so a lot of those fans (which are a much bigger fanbase in the Carolinas) stayed pulling Loudly for us.

Everyone remembers this Baw:

Plus... Catholics, Methodists, and Baptists. We ran the gauntlet of denominations before beating those Godless Gators from Florida.

I thought Duke wasn’t affiliated anymore

It's still so exhilarating and heartbreaking at the same time thinking about our run. From beating Tennessee in the SEC Tourney Championship until the very end we were playing some amazing ball. Chuma going down was heartbreaking, Bruce almost broke down on national television.

Can't decide in 2013 NC or 2019 NCAA's hurt more since we were that close.

A Final 4 run is impressive any way you slice it. Both schools should be very proud of their guys.

I actually felt better about playing Wisconsin over Florida. Our defense that year was a nightmare for any team that hadn’t seen it. I was worried that UF had familiarity and was more athletic

I’d say Auburn’s because they seem to be capitalizing on their run, whereas Carolina has done nothing since

I still feel like this years squad could have made some noise, but we will never know

Both had great runs:

See i was the opposite because of the familiarity
Wisconsin also always has a great team defense and think they would have slowed us down (our offense is what turned up during that run, we averaged 82 a game in those wins)

Both were great runs. That Carolina team was special. Lost a few games they shouldn’t have. Could’ve and should’ve won thirty games.

I’ve never been that happy watching ANY Gamecock event. It was like I was a kid in 1985 getting transformers again happy.

I was on the side that would have rather played Wisconsin too. I think our defense would have seriously caused Wisconsin problems where Florida had already seen us twice that year and knew what to expect.

Yea but i think in turn Wisconsin would have been better against our offense than Florida was.
People love to harp on our defense and it was great but we were averaging over 80 a game during that run.
They held Nova to 62 and Florida to 72 in regulation

I think if we played them it would have been an ugly 65-62 type game

And it almost all ended right here, why the tournament is so much fun

We all had a lot of trepidation going in to that one. Hell of a run in the SEC tournament, then sent out west to play at altitude with very little rest against a rested 30 win 12 seed. Got by them by the skin of our teeth.

We were the only 5 to avoid the dreaded 12-5 upset too IIRC.

Then when we had a couple of days to get our feet underneath us, we obliterated Kansas.
