What run was more impressive?

South Carolina:
- 7 Seed
- Defeated (10) Marquette, (2) Duke, (3) Baylor, (4) Florida, Lost to (1) Gonzaga

Auburn:
- 5 seed
- Defeated (12) New Mexico State, (4) Kansas, (1) North Carolina, (2) Kentucky, Lost to (1) Virginia

Although South Carolina was the lower seed and probably more of the surprise to make a run, I have to give the edge to Auburn. Their run of 3 straight wins against Kansas, North Carolina, and Kentucky was amazing. Not to mention South Carolina had the advantage of playing the first two rounds in Greenville, SC. Thoughts?

Easily Auburn

Those are some big time names and high seeds

At the beginning, to get the sweet 16? South Carolina.

After that though, Auburn's run the rest of the way is more impressive.

Overall I'd give it to Auburn.

Average seed of opponent:
South Carolina: 4 (including final game)
Auburn: 4 (including final game)

A lot of that is because of those first two games. After that, Auburn's average opponent is 1.25 seed; South Carolina's 2.3.

Agreed about the big time names, but high seeds are pretty similar between the two runs.

Auburn defeated a 1, 2, and 4 seed.
SC defeated a 2, 3, and 4 seed.

Auburn. It was fun watching Thornwell carry USC though, but that Auburn team went through three blue bloods and should have beaten the national champs.

That's a good outlook on the overall resume of both teams. I can definitely agree with that.

Auburn
We also had a huge advantage with two games basically at home.
And then two more in NYC which was a pretty neutral crowd (i was there for both games).

Auburn had 2 games in Utah and then 2 in KC.
And played two teams with huge traveling fan bases

Mainly meant that they weren’t just names, they had the seeds to match. Not overrated. At least on paper.

I think this is closer than it appears.Yes Auburn beat some big names but Kansas was a little down last year and UNC was too(obviously not as bad as this year but wasn’t as good as they usually are).

No offense to Carolina, but AU’s was more impressive. Carolina got lucky that UF beat Wisconsin in the Sweet 16 because that UF team was not elite 8 worthy.

Marquette did lead the nation in 3pt% that year and we scored more points against a Coach K team in a single half than anyone ever has in that 2nd half.

Plus... Catholics, Methodists, and Baptists. We ran the gauntlet of denominations before beating those Godless Gators from Florida.

Auburn's run was better. Ours was more surreal though. We hadn't won a tourney game since 1973 and hadn't even been in the tourney since 2004.

That isn't an advantage when Duke is one of the opponents.

Florida was a 4 seed, Wisconsin was an 8.

AU’s 2019 team was also better than our 2017 team.

It is. Duke's fanbase isn't very large compared to the other blueblood schools and their fans don't travel as well. Combined with the fact that it was South Carolina's first appearance in the tournament since 2004 and a large contingent of UNC fans in the building from the previous game, the crowd was decidedly PRO South Carolina. Coach K even mentioned it after the game.
