Watching the end of regulation of the 2018 CFBP championship, I was reminded of something I thought the rant and a few Alabama fans who may have been there might find a bit interesting.

In summer of 2017 I went to a luncheon where everyone who was there got to ask Nick questions unlike the media with their baiting agendas and what not. A few of them had their normal, really good and engaging questions that got good answers out of Nick. But there was this one little bastard that got on Nick’s bad side and it was about the special teams.

He basically said that over the course of the last few years, field goal kicking has been an area that needed big time improvement and asked Nick what he thought about Andy Pappanastos.

I swear to all you ranters these were Nick’s exact first words to him before he went on a rant:

“We wouldn’t have recruited him if he wasn’t any good!”

Might want to reevaluate that statement Nick

Shitty thread.

Pap was solid for us in 2017. Not great, but serviceable. Sure, he missed that kick, but it didn't matter. Who gives a frick.

Papp was good at what he was good at. While he shanked that last one, he was solid for us inside 40 this year. He was not consistent outside of 40 yards. It was his physical limit and he clearly had to overcompensate to try and get it there.

He was 56/56 on XPs, 13/15 from inside 40 and 5/10 from 40+ this season.

Pappanastos is a great kid from a great family. Glad Alabama won. Why anyone would want to kick for Bama is beyond me. Should have stayed at Ole Miss. (Note: He grew up a Bama fan.

Andy Pappanastos.

Andy was pretty good until his injury - and even then he was still about a 50% kicker.

His back injury is what caused his issues, not a lack of skill.

That’s a ridiculous statement.

Because national championship rings are much nicer than SEC West rings.

Not great but not bad really especially for a college kicker.

We've not had a solid money kicker since Tiffen. And we've still got 5 NC's. If this is our achilles heel, so be it.

He was generally very consistent at the things his body allowed him to do. Anything past 40 was going to require him to try and muscle up and he lost consistency. I'm almost as happy that we won solely because of the guilt he would have carried around. He didn't deserve that type of ending.

Do Bama fans always face so much hatred ?

Its hard to fathom, the premier football school of the league being constantly belittled by outliers.

Disclaimer : I'll be in the outlier section Oct 13. Hope to have fun in the mecca of college football.

I'll take that every year. Wish he would have made that last one, but all's well that ends well.

The biggest problem with our kickers is not that they can't hit the broad side of a barn, it's that they always crumple in clutch situations. In pressure-packed moments, with the game on the line, they consistently miss kicks. Leigh Tiffin and Jeremy Shelley are the two exceptions to this. They rarely, if ever, shrank away in big moments. Cade Foster, Adam Griffith, and Pappanastos all shriveled in big moments where they were absolutely needed for the purposes of momentum or straight up winning a game.
