1995 Nebraska vs. 2020 Alabama

Could the 1995 Nebraska roster play with the 2020 Alabama team? I just watched highlights of Nebraska’s 62-24 win over Florida. Lawrence Phillips and Tommy Frazier could play at a high level today. But, I’m not sure if Nebraska’s defense could have gotten any stops against Bama’s 2020 offense.

How would anyone know this?

No, spread offense would overwhelm the defense. Motions mismatches in spreed at the receiver positions...defenses could prep easier for option/run game and play action off if that....Don't believe Nebraska's defense could prep effectively for what BAMA was dishing out..the only team that could beat BAMA was BAMA this season

What about Yale and Princeton from the 1900's, or the 1939 aggies? aggies had a very solid defense from what I've read.

HELL YES!!!I'm thinking UAB could easily take LSU on homecoming....No prob

These are such lazy questions. A good GA high school team would demolish any of the national champs from the 20s. You can't compare across eras; only to others of the time.

Maybe if we would've had a good coach for that game.

I don’t think it’s a lazy question. Of course, a 2020 large classification high school team could demolish a college team from 1925. But, 1995 Nebraska had some powerful modern athletes.

And it was still a completely different time in cfb

I know that. That’s why it’s interesting to think about. I’d say the mid-90s is about the cutoff line where you can make these what if comparisons. The size of the linemen in the middle of the 1990s was getting to the size of where they are now.

Dude please, give it up already. It’s true that Nebraska OL was probably the best OL in college football history and yes they would have moved the ball on the ground and ate up clock, but lets talk about defense, could they stop this Alabama offense? No.
Why are you guys so busy trying to find a team that might have beaten Bama? Let it go already. Nobody knows but I know this, the best overall offense I have seen in my lifetime was this years Alabama offense. They could run and pass because they had a great OL and a badass QB and skill position players out their arse. END OF STORY!

Mullen,
I’m a Bama fan. I’m not trying to find a past team that could beat Bama. I’m just wondering how competitive the 1995 Nebraska roster could be against the 2020 Bama team.

Nebraska didn’t beat anyone by less than a TD, much less florida.
They also had way better pass rushers on that team than anything Bama faced this year.

But, could those Nebraska pass rushers penetrate the 2020 Alabama offensive line?

I'm not sure. I don't think they could for the entire game if I'm being honest.
It is an interesting second place debate though.
