8. Is it time for the SEC to step in about FCS cupcakes on the schedule?

With each team required to schedule 8 conference games, SEC programs are too often forced to head to the bakery and load up on cupcakes to fill out the docket. Alabama, for example, got dinged late in the season for a game against mighty Western Carolina — which was only marginally worse than scheduling New Mexico State. An undefeated Auburn team also got aced out of a potential national title game in 2004 because a game against The Citadel didn’t exactly shine up the résumé.

Sure, those are 2 glaring examples. But if the SEC went to a 9-game conference schedule, it would eliminate needing to write a 6-figure check for that cupcake. Will the powers that be make a change at the SEC Summer Meetings in Destin, Fla., this year?

7. How about becoming a 16-team super conference already?

When the SEC welcomed Missouri and Texas A&M into the fold beginning with the 2012 football season, it seemed like it was only a matter of time before 2 more teams were wooed into the mix — thus creating a 16-team super conference.

But that didn’t happen. Not yet, anyway. For 1 thing, going to 16 would allow for Missouri to actually go to the SEC West — and not the SEC East, which is insane just on geographic principles. For another, expanding either a bit to the north (we see you, North Carolina …) or to the south (hi there, Miami!) or back into Texas (Horned Frogs, anyone?) or grabbing up a mid-major power smack dab in the middle (Memphis is a natural choice!) is simply good business. Expansion needs to happen.

nope, if anything we should contract to 11 and play 10 conference games.

Horned Frogs, anyone?

I’m a fan of TCU, and many of my closest (non-Ag) friends attended the university.
But if there’s a football team in a P5 conference that draws fewer fans than does TCU, that’s bad news for said school.

They’re a fun program, but they’re far from cutout to be members of a large conference.

Sorry, but UGA (GT), UF (FSU), USC (CU), & UK (UL) will give you 4 NO's to ending those in-state rivalries.

They can still play that as an ooc game. Next. , and UK may not make the cut anyway. They can play UL as a conference game.

Not long after the 2019 season started, though, it seemed the 10-gallon hats that love spreading that oil money around might actually have a $75 million problem on their hands. Put simply, 8-5 ain’t gonna get it done at Texas A&M. If Jimbo Fisher doesn’t conjure up at least 10 wins in 2020, said 10-gallon hats will get back in those pockets and buy themselves someone new.

How? You said 11 teams & 10 game schedule.

Were you still counting a season to be 12 games?

I'm on board with 16. 7 division games, 2 opposite division games, 3 ooc. Eliminate auto opponents from opposite division. Just rotate every 4 years.

The cupcake thing isn't going away. Those small schools make their budgets with those games. Hell I saw last week a pac 12 team is taking over a mil to play at ND. Helps keep programs afloat.

What in the hell did those idiots think they were buying for $75 million dollars?

Yes, they paid a Lamborghini price, but they still got a Dodge 300 in the driveway. Jimbo is simply not a good head coach.

I'ld rather do 4X4 with 16 teams. Pair up 2 groups every year with "winners" going to the SEC game. Rotate the group pairs every year to do full H/A in 6.

How is a Pac12 team considered "cupcake"?

The NCAA should mandate a 9-game conference schedule for all P-5 conference teams with only 1 FCS team allowed on the schedule. It's not complicated.

Every conf. should be set up identical so the way to settle things is on the field!

The SEC should step in about the FCS games when the playoff committee vows to never let teams like Notre Dame play in a NY6 bowl again.

It's seriously such a joke of a point. With the exception of the occasional down year, every SEC West school has a stronger schedule than most D1 schools.

Look, as a fan of CFB, the FCS games suck, and I'd much rather another conference game.

However, the way the stupid playoff system works, it'd be dumb for any SECW school to not have these FCS/FCS-tier G5 games.

I don't think an independent school should play in a NY6 bowl if practically ALL OTHER schools have to deal with a conference schedule!

Gee, and all this time I thought it was two teams, with bigger names, were preseason 1&2, and finished undefeated.

If Jimbo Fisher doesn’t win 10 games my arse,
It is WHEN Jimbo Fisher doesn’t win 10 games this next season. He might win 10 games with the bowl game, maybe.
