I think 2012 Alabama is already being highly undervalued and underrated. I am not saying they were the best team of the last ten years, far from it, but look at their point differential. They scored 542 points on the year, second most in the SEC, while giving up only 153. The defense, while not as good as 2011's, shutout 4 teams and should have shutout 5. The '12 Alabama offense is without a doubt the best in Alabama history from a statistical point of view and the defense finished #1 in the country.

6. Auburn 10
7. Oklahoma 00
8. USC 03
9. LSU 03

7. 2006 Florida
8. 2004 Auburn
9. 2007 Georgia
10. 2012 Alabama.

I think the 08 UF team was much better than 09 simply because of Harvin.

2010 Auburn WAY, WAY too high.

They don't even belong on the list at all IMO. Heck Florida, Alabama, and LSU have 3-4 better teams EACH over that time span.

A very bad defense that improved to just ok by the end of the year.

Very one dimensional offense all centered around one guy who had to play superman every week just to barely get his team by.

No depth at all.

No coaching (LOL Chizik).

There's a reason Auburn was crummy the year before and crummy the year after. That team was held together by gum and scotch tape.

Cam + Fairely + 20 other bums doesn't sound like a great team to me.

I think the best team should be the most complete team. While Auburn's offense was incredibly dynamic and virtually impossible to stop at times, going against their defense was also like driving a knife through a stick of butter at times.

How we don't have 2007 Georgia on here is absurd. Had they played LSU in the SEC title game and not Tennessee, THEY would have won the title.

Maybe it had something to do with the fact that our 6-6 SC team beat UGA that year and kept them out of the end zone in Athens?

For everyone saying that 2004 AU would beat 2010 AU, something to think about: The 2004 team was coached by TT and his standard operating procedure was to jump out to an early lead and then sit on the ball. The 2010 team typically gave up an early lead and then came back and dominated the second half. If the two teams played, the 2004 team would have probably got out to something like a 24-0 lead or so... and then lost by something like 28-27.

The only time I remember Tubby sitting on an early lead in '04 was in the Sugar Bowl. His team was up 16-0 heading into the fourth. The final score was 16-13.

You're forgetting about the rest of the juniors and seniors who were pretty good and played their asses off. Or maybe you're just talking out of your arse.

They played their asses off but it was Cam Newton who made the plays to save the day. Chizik rode Newton's back all the way to Glendale and beyond. I know you can't use hypotheticals without him because he was on the team but if he wasn't, that's a 4 or 5-loss team - even with those juniors and seniors playing their asses off.

You can use Mark Ingram and '09 Alabama as a counter-example. But without Ingram, the '09 team loses 1 or 2 games maximum. It was still an overall better team than '10 Auburn even without Mark Ingram.

That team doesn't get to the BCS national championship game without Cam Newton. That much is clear. But I hate how the contributions of the other guys are discounted. Those guys showed up every week just like Cam and stayed focused in the face of constant turmoil. Plenty of players made clutch contributions all season: Dyer, McCalebb, Byrum, Etheridge, and others I am forgetting.
