I am out of my premier club and back among the masses. (On waiting list for similar club in bama) I am hunting two small tracts (under 500 acres) and probably some public land and my viper is too heavy and noisy.

My bow hunting buddies use viper but usually these light weight hang ons almost exclusively lone wolf, with a few muddy. I am ok with that but not sure want to spend 500 bucks until I am sure this is better etc.

I am looking at hawk mega combat combo for 200 bucks at BPS etc. but I can’t if it all fits together etc. I know it needs to be converted to a back pack. (I was going to go this and if I liked etc would buy helium sticks etc. )

Anyone have any advice on this. I use cross bow and rifle since I am blind in one eye, doctor would not ok bow, supposed to wear safety glasses to hunt. I am in 50s decent shape but would like it to be as light as possible.

Any input, big sales, places to buy good used sticks etc appreciated

Check out Old Cypress stands. I have one with a set of hawk helium sticks and it is a super lightweight combo. Old cypress also makes their own sticks.

Been very impressed with the weight and quality of the stands

I know most of them make their sticks to fit cozily into their stands for transport, but dont let that be your deciding factor. Two good bungee cords is all you need. Holds my Muddy sticks on my Lone Wolf stand. Add some army surplus Molle backpack straps, and you're good to go.

Thanks, that is what was concerning me. All my bow buddies have a bracket like thing that holds the sticks.

What is good total weight? Under 20 pounds , 25?

Check out saddle hunting as well. I havent jumped into this area yet, but i probably will next year. There are some very nice options, but there are some very affordable options that will be unmatched by a lock-on in terms of weight and ease of carrying in.

A cheaper alternative to lone wolf is XOP. The fit and finish is not as nice but I like my sticks and stand from them.

20 or under would be good IMO.

I second you don’t need brackets, etc.

Depends on your build, and how far you're walking. If you get above 20lbs, I'd suggest getting the Molle straps that have the additional lumbar strap.

I started this year and haven’t looked back. It’s pretty quick to setup as well.

Which saddle are you using? Ive been looking at a cheap rock harness and the sit drag to start out with, but the aerohunter and tethrd set ups look great. theyre just $300

I already had a rock climbing harness as my safety harness and bought a sit n drag.

The tethrd setup does look really nice.

I sewed a belt on the sitndrag and it makes a nice difference.

I have a marsh seat mounted to one of my sticks as my platform. That’s what I’ll probably upgrade next. It’s a deep rabbit hole.

Ill probably pull the trigger on this pretty soon. Maybe upgrade next year. I plan on doing a public land hunt in the midwest nest year and the light mobile set up seems like the way to go.

I like it. Lock-on or saddle, I’m really glad I got a rope man one for my lineman’s belt/tether.

makes things a lot easier.

In your 50’s and rifle/Xbow hunt. Get a turkey chair and pruning sheers to make a brush blind. The ground is the place for you.
