Surely there will be a replacement. I really do believe anybody could do just as well and most probably a lot better than McGriff.

Tony Hughes out at Jackson State. We need to put him on our staff somehow right now. That dude is deeply connected in MS and knows how to make it happen in recruiting.

If true, might as well fire him now.

What is the SEC rule on hiring recruiting analysts mid-season

Why can't these #MississippiMade recruits see the same potential in Coach Luke that Bjork and the town of Oxford does!

Because they don’t wear red and blue glasses. They know this is a dumpster fire of a coaching staff.

Everytime I see "Coach Luke" for some reason I accidentally read it as "Couch Luke", which actually sounds like a more fitting name.

Longo doing work bringing in 3 star academy QBs when we need defensive players

I would rather us bring in Tony Hull at Kansas somehow someway. That guy had ballers from New Orleans sold on playing at Kansas... Freakin Kansas. Imagine what he could do much closer to home with a shot to play in SEC.

We are better when we have a few guys from the N.O. area sprinkled in our roster.

I wouldn't mind having another Stewart Patridge type. But frick our recruiting is laughably bad

Next year Corral is the only QB we know will be on campus, so I do think this is necessary.

Not having enough talent on defense has been the only concession that I have lent to McGriff and his staff. But it isn't going to get better with only 1 4-Star defensive player committed.

It literally means the kid from North Panola said screw us.

Yeah they pulled a Freeze and told the hometown kid to screw himself while we chased white whales. I’d rather have the north panola guy.

Strange how the same recruiting troubles that plagued Freeze has followed this completely new football staff. It's almost like the recruiting woes placed at the feet of Freeze weren't solely his fault.

If you consider that he was in charge of those on his staff then you can absolutely attribute recruiting woes to the inability of those he employs.

It's lingering because many of the same faces are still on OM coaching staff.

Tall, from an all-white Jackson academy school, 3-star QB, and Bama bangs. He’s literally Frat Cannon 2.0

This is pretty much my point.

I'm definitely not in the "Freeze-apologist, I want Freeze back" camp. Freeze had significant shortcomings, but those shortcomings were also shared among-st many on his staff, a lot of which are still here, still underachieving (some having been rewarded the title of head coach).

Then you have media suggest that the talent disparity is strictly Freeze's fault while ignoring the shared responsibility of the current staff that isn't doing anything to remedy their shortcomings.

If you want a depressingly realistic take on our recruiting efforts, listen to the Rebel Grove recruiting podcast episodes with Russell Johnson (no membership required), I think it's called "Soft Verbal". I don't know if Johnson's brutal honesty with the ineptness of the recruiting effort is the result of not having to foster warm and superficial relationships with the football staff members; but it's a refreshing departure from Yancy and company's typical homerism and McCready's inability to criticize anything Matt Luke does.

We have 10 total defensive commits, 7 of them are DBs, and the only 2 guys committed that were being recruited by McGriff are OT's.... what is McGriff even doing

Freeze failed to fire anybody. When a subordinate doesn't do their job then they get fired. Freeze failed in that respect as a HC. It is all directly linked to Freeze. I don't understand the confusion.

Freeze could have and should have looked at his roster and said we need X, Y, and Z. We have zero talent at X, Y, and Z spots. I need to fire deadbeats who cant bring in that talent and install fresh assistants to go out and get X, Y, and Z or else I fail and my team fails.

An SEC coach needs to be able to handle all of this. We have a bad record of hiring bad coaches who can't can't keep the ship afloat for a sustained period of time.
