I hope that leads to us getting Omari Thomas as well

ETA: Yancy just added a crystal ball for Omari Thomas to Ole Miss. That’s the only crystal ball so far.

The kid has a good offer sheet. Also, he’s best friends with a top 100 defensive lineman Omari Thomas that Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, and A&M covet. They want to go to school together. There’s a really good chance we get Thomas now. Try not to bitch too much about this one. Freeze took a super low three star borderline two star (not talking about Denzel) to get Robert Nkimdiche. Remember that before you say Freeze wouldn’t have needed to take a 3 star to get a Top 100 kid.

He did for Tunsil by taking Alex Webber and Zed Woods. He did for Nkimdiche taking David Kamara. I think Anthony Standifer was a 2012 guy but he’s a big part of the reason we got Treadwell cause they were from the same school.

The question I have is are we more concerned about getting players or rankings?

2013 Freeze had...
5*- 4
4*- 8

Of the 8 of those guys, 5 of them did not finish playing football at OM.

Kailo Moore
Lavon Hooks
Jordan Wilkins

2016 Freeze had....
5*- 3
4*- 12
Of the 12 of those guys 5 did not finish with OM. 1 of those 5* is playing at Michigan.

Last year which most don't believe was a great class we had...

5*- 1
4*- 7

So what are we really talking about?

I tell ya what I hope we are talking about. Scratching out 6 regular season wins and then getting hold of say Temple in the Birmingham Bowl and going 7-6 at season's end. Get in another good or better recruiting class and then maybe 8 overall wins the next year. You see where I'm going here.

If we get 6 wins this year I'd be willing to put money we have more than 8 wins the following year. This team returning is this year is young. Going to a bowl game would be huge for recruiting and finishing strong.

Its one prediction in July. I would love to get this kid though. Recruiting well in the trenches is key to success.

-This guy and his family is best friends with a top 100 DT
-This guy is from Memphis, ya know the city with tons of talent that we always whiff on?
-This guys dad played for Ole Miss
-This guy can straight ball and is made for a Rich Rod style offense

If we didn't get this guy, you would rip Luke for any of those 4 reasons.

re: Official 2020 Ole Miss Football Recruiting Thread: Updated 12:00PM 9/12/19
Ole Miss seems to be narrowing its focus to just a few recruits now that they sit with 22 commits and are only taking 25 (there will likely be a few that get dropped). They are:

TE JJ Pegues: Pegues seems to be down to Ole Miss and Auburn. Personally, I think he’s leaning towards Auburn. Yancy thinks he comes to Ole Miss. I think it will probably take Gus getting fired for Pegues to end up at Ole Miss.

DT McKinnley Jackson: Jackson’s top group seems to be Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Alabama, and Auburn. State is not pursuing him and neither is LSU (where he was once committed). This one is too close to call. He doesn’t plan to commit until signing day. Jackson projects to be on the inside in the 3-4.

DT: Jah-Marien Latham: Latham is down to Ole Miss and Alabama. There’s a lot of buzz he could do like De’Rickey Wright and flip to Ole Miss. There’s also buzz that Alabama May simply just let him go in favor of a higher rated target. Latham seems to possibly be leaning towards Ole Miss despite being committed to Alabama. Latham is a guy that I think could play DT or DE in the 3-4.

DT: Omari Thomas: Thomas has a top six of Ole Miss, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Arkansas, and A&M. His teammate and best friend Jabari Small just committed to Ole Miss which only helps Ole Miss’s chances. Thomas doesn’t say much and likely won’t commit until signing day. Yancy crystal balled him to Ole Miss but I don’t think anyone really knows. Thomas projects at DE.

OLB Jakivaun Brown: Brown, who is teammates with Ole Miss commit Josiah Hayes, committed to State a few months ago. However, he showed up to Ole Miss this weekend. This one likely goes to signing day between Ole Miss and State. I think Ole Miss has a good chance to flip.

DB Emmanuel Forbes: Forbes is starting to blow up a little. He recently debuted in the latest Top247 and is on the rise. Forbes has been committed to State since February. However, Forbes grew up a huge Ole Miss fan. He didn’t get the Ole Miss offer until he camped in June. He also decided to visit State this past weekend and not Ole Miss; however, he is supposed to be visiting this week before the dead period starts but we’ll see if that happens. He’s another one that will likely go to signing day between Ole Miss and State.

I know it’s early for 2021 but here’s an update after 247 and ESPN both released 2021 rankings this week.

WR Deion Smith out of Jackson was ranked 81st overall (11th WR) by 247 and 170th overall (40th WR) by ESPN. Smith is committed to State and as of now I expect it to stay that way.

WR Isaiah Brevard out of Southaven was not included in the Top247 (and is unranked) but was ranked 43rd overall (8th WR) by ESPN. Brevard is uncommitted and has a very solid offer sheet (OM, State, Georgia, Arkansas, Tennessee, A&M, FSU, TCU) Ole Miss appears to be the early front runner for Brevard as he named Ole Miss his leader following an Ole Miss camp in early June. He says he believes Ole Miss can get him to the league.

WR Antonio Harmon out of Kosciusko was ranked 77th overall (9th WR) by 247 and 160th overall (36th WR) by ESPN. Harmon is probably the top receiver in the state. He’s been compared to DK Metcalf and I believe some people even nicknamed him “Baby DK”. Harmon will be a traditional in-state battle. Right now, he seems to be trending towards Ole Miss. He chose to visit Ole Miss over State this past weekend. Peeler (who’s also from Kosciusko) is handling this recruitment.

QB Ty Keyes out of Taylorsville was ranked 246th overall (8th Dual Threat) by 247 and 151st overall (4th Dual Threat) by ESPN. Auburn was the early favorite but just got a commitment from Aaron McLaughlin this week. It seems this one will be another Ole Miss-State battle but I think State probably has the edge right now.

WR Brandon Buckhaulter out of Jackson is rated 308th overall by 247 (49th WR) and is a high 3 star. ESPN didn’t include him in the ESPN300 but did give Buckhaulter an initial rating of 4 stars. He is currently committed to Ole Miss but is flirting with State. He’s definitely one I could see flipping. I’m pretty sure he named Arkansas his leader when he checked in at an Ole Miss event a few months ago and then committed to Ole Miss later that same day after the visit. I don’t think his recruitment is close to being over.

Other to keep an eye on:
WR Cameron Wright (has an OM and Memphis offer). I think Wright is flying under the radar due to the offense he plays in. He looks to be in the same tier as the other 4 top receivers in state.
WR Jacobi Moore (has offers from OM, State, and Auburn). There’s not a whole lot on Moore yet other than early offers.
RB Jarquez Hunter (has offers from OM and Tennessee). I believe Ole Miss is the early leader for Hunter.

Note on the receivers. Ole Miss will probably take 3. The likeliest are probably Harmon, Brevard, and Buckhaulter. There is also currently potential for Buckhaulter to switch to safety which could open up another spot for Wright or Moore.
