Holy shite I dragged a glimmer of hope out of HJJ!! Yes!!!
Henry I’m curious to get your take on this; do you think since next year is the 4th and final year of Luke’s contract (and therefore could be make or break for earning an extension) that he’ll pull out all the stops, get it together and stitch together a respectable season? Trust me, I’m as irritated as the next OM fan but there are a lot of things about this team that one could argue they’re on the brink of a breakout year. Or that I’m delusional

The one thing I've complimented Luke on this year is the team hasn't quit. If these freshmen continue to develop and lead like they have been while we recruit at a decent level, we could pull out 6-7 wins next year with an "upset" over an Auburn or Florida.
My biggest concern is if this is more Luke's coaching ability improving or his assistants. I tend to think it's the latter

Geez, so doom and gloom. We just put up over 600 yards of offense on the #1 team in the country with a true freshman at quarterback. That’s a pretty good reason to be optimistic about the future.

We didn't get beat soundly last night because of our offense.

Agreed, it’s frustrating. I guess I’m just impressed that we lead the league in rushing.
But the two teams that lead the league in passing are Bama and LSU, so yeah point taken.

When Ole Miss athletics director Ross Bjork left Oxford for Texas A&M earlier this year, he left behind one of the most coach-friendly contracts in college football.Luke, a Mississippi native and former Ole Miss offensive lineman (and longtime assistant coach), received a starting salary of $3 million for 2018, which increases by $100,000 in each of the four years:
2018: $3 million
2019: $3.1 million
2020: $3.2 million
2021: $3.3 million

If we don't have the stones to fire him after the eggbowl, we better do it at the end (or middle) of 2020. I say we do it when we open 1-4 next year.

We don’t need moral victories, but he’s not wrong. We had over 600 yards of offense and considering our time of possession we did a good job of controlling the ball.

He should have never made over 3 a year.

Yep. Name one school who would have outbid us for Luke.

If Luke "loves Ole Miss" as much as is claimed, he should have been happy with 1 - 1.5 million per year. Even that would have been overpaying for a failed offensive line coach.

Passing game has a lot of issues - Plumlee’s arm/Corral’s accuracy and mechanics, both QBs needing to develop pocket presence and learning to read defenses, young WRs who can’t get any separation, and an OL that is not good at pass protection.
Last one is a talent issue but we have some young OL talent in Broeker and Cunningham that will come along, the rest will come with time.

If Dak and Tebow could become competent passers after seeing where they started, Plumlee can too. ***
*** they had really good coaching
ETA: if Plumlee could learn to hit that option pass Kelly used to hit sprinting out to the sideline, it would be nearly impossible to defend. If you are a CB or Safety and you see him sprinting to the edge but you have a receiver trying to get behind you, you are in a lose lose.

Problem is Johnny boy is like 5'11 and can't see over the line. They will continue to move him out of the pocket to see and limiting him throwing from the pocket.
His arm stinks in strength and accuracy. I just don't see it improving. He could be just as effective in the slot taking handoffs and shooting up the middle while Ashford is the QB. That leaves Ealy in there too as an option that has to be covered. 3 Great play makers in the game at once.

I disagree. He’s not Chad Kelly but he can throw well enough with some coaching and practice. The dude didn’t enroll in spring or summer and he’s starting in the SEC as a true freshman and we are shocked he’s not lighting the world on fire through the air. He’s not going to hit 50 yard bombs but he doesn’t need to with how tight the DBs and safety have to play him on the LoS. There are plenty of intermediate routes, screens and read option throws that he can learn to hit with practice.

Agree completely, I find it hard to believe he doesn’t have the athletic ability to throw a slant, screen, back dump off and 10 yard out, consistently..if not, put him in the slot or at TB and turn him into Christian McCaffrey..RR has got to be flexible enough to do this or he has to go as this kid is a rare breed

It really makes you wonder what his stats and playing style was like in high school. I mean he had to have had the ability to throw the ball or they wouldn't have recruited him as a QB right?
Posted on 11/25/19 at 9:53 am to RebelRye
Completed 64% of his passes in HS for 2834 yards, 33 TDs and 3 ints his senior year. Ran for 1444 yards and 19 TDs.
He's a freshman. He will improve.
