He is very good on defense. Dude can block shots better than most players we've had recently.

However, he missed a lot of easy passes on the offensive side of the ball. With that, my only worry about him is that he has butter hands. Could have been nerves playing in his first game, though. I'm curious to see how he plays on Friday night.

My lineup for the first match -- 4 guards; and Hymon to start game for 5 minutes.

Then Stevens for 5 minutes.

Then Ole J. for 5 minutes.

Last 5 minutes goes to whomever of the 3 had the best play.

But I would always have 4 guards to run the hell out of the other team. 40 MINUTES OF HELL.

We can’t throw it in the ocean first half versus ULL.

That was a rough first half. Need to pick up on defense in the second half. Also missed too many free throws.

Free throw shooting was indeed bad.

Just saw the Monday game is at 5:30 pm.

I would have turned on the radio at 6 to listen to pre-game.

Eastern Kentucky Colonels - 5:30 P.M., SEC Network+, Radio Broadcast on either 93.7 or 105.5.

EKU was 12-19 last year, 5-11 in conference play which made them dead last in their division and second to last in their conference. They began last season 6-4, then proceeded to have 3 different stretches when they lost 4 or more games in a row.

EKU lost only one senior to graduation, and won its first game of the season against Rice @Rice by a score of 73-72. Freshman Dedric Boyd hit a pair of free throws to make the score 73-72, and the Colonels prevailed. This is a pretty nice win for them considering that Rice was a 23-12 team last year.

Roster for EKU:

EASTERN KENTUCKY COLONELS
NO NAME POS HT WT CLASS HOMETOWN
0 Dujuanta Weaver G 5-10 175 SO Louisville, KY
1 JacQuess Hobbs G 6-2 175 FR Louisville, KY
2 DeAndre Dishman F 6-6 215 SO Lexington, KY
3 Peyton Broughton G 6-5 195 FR London, KY
4 Dillon Avare G 6-0 160 SR Lexington, KY
5 A.J. Youngman G 6-5 195 FR Peoria, IL
10 Nick Mayo F 6-9 240 JR Oakland, ME
11 Asante Gist G 5-11 185 SO East Orange, NJ
12 Zach Charles F 6-7 210 SR Mesquite, TX
13 Jackson Davis F 6-8 220 JR Lexington, KY
15 Kirkland Humphrey G 6-0 170 JR Richmond, KY
20 Dedric Boyd G 6-4 175 FR Brownsville, TN
21 Lachlan Anderson F 6-8 200 SO Sydney, FL
23 Cameron Carmical G 5-10 160 FR Harlan, KY
25 Mason Cooper G 6-2 175 FR Fairfield, ME

Starting 5 for EKU:

***Keep in mind that this roster may not be the same tonight. I pulled this lineup from their first game against Rice.***

ROSTER ANALYSIS

First thing that jumps out at me when looking at their roster is that they're fairly small. OM has 5 players that are 6'8" or taller, EKU only has 3, and no one that is bigger than 6'9". So there's an advantage. Should help us on the offensive glass.

I don't know much about their backcourt, but I can reasonably assume that our stable of PG's/SG's are much better and will be much better as a whole group than probably 70ish% of the teams that we play this year, if not more.

***I know the formatting is bad. I had to copy it from ESPN and it didn't work too well. Too much work to fix it.***

STATISTICAL ANALYSIS:

This team is great from the free throw line (17-19, 89.5%), gets a lot of rebounds (43 in the first game with 30 defensive and 13 offensive), and is decent at creating turnovers (4 steals, 1 block).

They are an overall lackluster shooting team (25-65, 38.5% ), very poor from 3 (6-27, 22.2%) turn the ball over a lot (13 TO's in their first game), and don't share the ball very well (12 assists in their first game).

EKU seemingly depends on the majority of its scoring from Dedric Boyd, Nick Mayo, and DeAndre Dishman. They all scored 11 points or more in their game vs EKU, while everyone else who scored had 7 points or less. Only 7 out of their 10 players that played scored at all. Therefore, the keys to beating this team is to keep Nick Mayo and DeAndre Dishman off the glass, limit Dedric Boyd from the field, and, as a team, stay out of foul trouble to keep the Colonels off the line.

This is an example of a decently coached team with lackluster talent that can play above its talent level in certain games. Free throws can make the difference in a tightly contested game, as well as rebounds. However, if EKU as a team shoots less than 40% as a team against us tonight, I don't believe the game will be that close throughout. EKU's ineptitude from deep also hurts their chances of generating consistent offense against us, and our big men will hopefully be able to keep them off the glass.

PREDICTION - I predict a win for the Rebz. TD has another good game and scores 20, Shuler goes 3-5 from 3, Bruce Stevens nabs some rebounds and blocks some shots, and Andy Kennedy's shoe game is as strong as ever.

Final Score - 82-65 Rebels.

Hunt: -16

With a win tonight, the Rebels will go over .500 AS A PROGRAM for the 1st time since 1959! Where were you in 1959? #DoNotMiss

Would be huge to get over .500 as a program. Illustrates how far we’ve really come over the past 20 years as a program.

Rebels win 85-75, move to 2-0 on the season. EKU falls to 1-1. Good win for the rebs, had four scorers in double figures.

Two subs lead the way: D. Burnett with 17; and T. Davis with 16.

Next up: FRIDAY NITE @ 7 pm vs. Georgia Southern.

Gotta say - I think this backcourt is the best backcourt we have had in a loooooong time. We have had some great guard play these past few years, but when you combine the leadership ability of TD, the explosiveness of Burnett, the killer mentality of Tyree, and the sheer talent of Shuler, I can't think of a better backcourt that OM has had recently.

I watched a decent bit of the Kentucky/Kansas game last night. It seems that the SEC is getting some respect as a league this year. This could bode well for getting into the tournament. The league definitely appears to be talented, and we have a lot of offensive fire power. We just need to continue to get better and not lose games we should win. I'm excited about this team.

The SEC is better top to bottom.

The lower tier teams may not be great this year but they will be in the next year or two.
