As others have said I've eaten a lot of burgers in Tuscaloosa. Never heard of one with ham, anywhere. Rama Jama's has a burger with a fried egg on it. That's the best I can do.
Also I googled "southern burgster tuscaloosa" and nothing came up.
This story is bullshite.

I've eaten at every burger joint in Tuscaloosa and Northport in my time, and I've never been served a burger with a slice of ham in the middle, EVER.
Stupid post is stupid.
Stupid post is stupid.

I like your title "Wtf south", as in that's how we do it.
If this burger is the burger that represents the entire south, then yeah, I believe all of the south practices this culinary oddity.

the only place I ever saw a burger offered with a slice of ham on it was at a place called Grandstand Burgers in KC. It was delicious.

WTF South? Really? And of all Places...Tuscaloosa!
1st fiction clue:
"pulled this off of a prominant food critic website." WTF south?
quote:
"...
2nd fiction clue:
I stood in front of (Tuscaloosa burger joint) staring at their old rusted 1950s metal sign. A food critic friend in Chattanooga, TN had told me about this restaurant. He said, "If you don't stop at (burger joint) in Tuscaloosa to sample their famous southern burgster, then your trip to New Orleans will have been wasted because you will have passed by the best burger the south has to offer!"
Really ?????????
A fictional "burgster" is better than world-class cuisine in New Orleans ???
What does "WTF South" mean? One fictional greasy spoon supposedly in Tuscaloosa somehow is a reliable demographic random sample of AAAAALLLLLLLLLLL restaurants in the 10 state area with 100 million people ??????????????
Good Gawd Almighty you're warped........

I've been to just about every burger joint in Tuscaloosa and I can tell you, the story is full of shite.
There is NO burger joint in Tuscaloosa with an "old rusted 1950s metal sign," other than maybe Nick's in the Sticks. Why that guy would order a burger and not a filet mignon just makes him stupid. Other than that, there is NO place in Tuscaloosa that has ham on their burgers. Maybe, Northport but not Tuscaloosa.

I was saying who the hell would actually write an entire fake food review just to troll southerners about something as silly as a burger?

The filet at Nick's is fantastic - the only reason to go there, IMO.
And there is no burger joint in N'port that puts ham on their burgers.

Everyone always raved about Nicks and I have been there a few times and didn't find the steaks that incredible. Don't get me wrong a fine meal. But the praise the place received was a bit over the top.
I guess it is cause there isn't a great steakhouse in ttown, and the people raving were my native tuscaloosa friends.
