Gotta love The Pogues!

I like them better than Dropkick Murphys or Flogging Molly, though they're good too. I really love the traditional Irish music - The Dubliners, Clancy Brothers, Gaelic Storm, Young Dubliners, The Chieftans. If you ever get the chance to see The Chieftans you should do it, they are fantastic live.

Danny Boy was my grandfather's favorite song. He was about as Irish as he could be.

That song brings a tear to my eye!! That and Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye.

We have a lot of musicians in my family, and family occasions when I was a kid always had a bunch of my uncles and cousins playing all kinds of instruments. I learned a few Irish folk songs back then, like Seven Drunken Nights. My mom didn't necessarily approve of that one.

Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye is the original version of When Johnny Comes Marching Home. It's an old Irish folk song that was adopted for the Civil War by Scots-Irish immigrants to the south.

Seven Drunken Nights is just a funny song about a man who thinks his wife is sleeping around on him, but he isn't sure because he's so drunk every night.

St. Patrick's day, much like New Years Eve, is fricking amateur night. Wannabe Irish who want to drink crappy green colored beer and wear stupid "kiss me I'm Irish" tshirts. As my grand mother, who was from County Donegal would say " frick'em!"

No reason to be sorry, it's just that if you're Irish, you drink every day like the pogues do on St. Patrick's day. It's in our blood..

Unless you're one of the unfortunate part-Irish - and part Southern Baptist. It's a conflicted life we lead, for sure.

I'm not really sure where that leaves me.

Me either!

I'm Irish, Scottish, Welsh and English. Supposedly a little Dutch thrown in there too, but haven't confirmed this just yet.

I'm 1/2 Scottish, 1/4 Irish, and 1/4 Mohawk Native American. I have a soul. A soul that loves fire water.

The one good thing about being Catholic, no guilt about alcohol....just everything else.
