The 80s was the last decade that had a healthy mix of advanced technology and traditional outdoor activities. It was a great decade to grow up as a kid in. You had great video games and the lack of the internet was actually a good thing because kids still played sports and explored the outdoors instead of being glued to a computer or I-Phone like today's kids. One great thing the last decade and a half DID give us was satellite radio which ironically saves people from the piss poor music being produced by the music industry today.

70s better. Lived through both as young adult, first hand knowledge.

It's all subjective anyway so I'm not saying your wrong to love the 70s. I just have a perception that it was kind of a depressing and strange decade with very little innovation. I've heard from some baby boomers that it was a depressing decade. Bad economy, deeply divided demoralized country coming out of Vietnam, gas shortages, President Nixon and then an even more inept Jimmy Carter, embarrassingly ridiculous variety and kid shows (HR Puffin Stuff), etc. I'll grant you there were some legendary rock groups in their prime and some fantastic movies in the decade but other than that why do you find the 70s to be so much better? Just curious.

80s sucked. re: disco, bad music, bad movies, goofy cars
The 80's had some awesome movies.
Top Gun, Back to the future, Short circuit, Red Dawn, and so on.
And don't forget all those awesome John Hughes movies...

Dude, we had Billy Beer. It doesn't get much better than that. I for one believe that it is times like those that bring out our best. Go to Atlanta and look at all the folks living beyond their means - recessions help us to put things back into perspective. Believe me, the 70s were sweet. Innovation, man what are you talking about? 8 tracks and quadraphonic sound!

Ok, now it's just obvious you are trolling with that last comment.

I gotta give the 70's some credit. The Carol Burnett show, The Muppets and Gilligan's Island.

Invasion USA, Missing in Action, Friday the 13th, Bloodsport, Rambo, Wall Street, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Platoon, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Once Upon A Time In America, E.T., Aliens, Full Metal Jacket, The Right Stuff, Blade Runner, Die Hard, Field of Dreams, Terminator, The Mission, Airplane!, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, The Shining, Stand By Me, Ghostbusters..
Just a few off the top of my head. The 80's was the quintessential decade for the action movie as well, bringing us Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Sly Stallone, Van Damme and Steven Segal in their primes.

but the 80's have always intrigued me and they definitely seem a hell of a lot better than what we are living with right now.
No way. The 80s were the worst decade of last century, and are way worse then the two in the new century.

Not trolling but rather trying to lighten the mood here. As for technology progress - Steven Jobs dropped out of school in 1975 and the rest is i-History. 70 were better if between 18-25 at that time. 80s were really lame.

Its impossible to name all the good movies from the 80's.
And what made it so much better was the newly introduced VHS VCR, Movie rentals and HBO

I guess that decade has always struck me as a time when there was still quite a bit of pride and optimism in America.
But like I said, I wasn't around then and I know I could have a distorted view.

No offense, but didn't you just graduate from college recently. Don't you at least half to have been born in the decade to make such a definitive statement like this? There were definitely better decades than the 80s but the bolded part above is ridiculous. This past decade literally might have been the worst decade in American history other than the 1930s or 1860s.

80s always struck me as dull as a child since they were so recent. I was infatuated with the 50s and 60s and am only now beginning to look back at the 80s with interest. I guess the 90s are next on the true nostalgia cycle.

The 80's was the last decade of cruising, hot rods and badass, over the top action movies. It's been all downhill since.
The 90's, there were no hang outs, cruising, hot rodding consisted of momma and pop buying their kid a mustang and throwing a NOS bottle on it.

The 80s were also the worst decade for music. Other than the Talking Heads, there was a lot of shite.

pssh.
Outside of giving birth to Rap, and inevitably hip hop. The 80's had the best variety of music any decade has had to offer.
