The sign serves no purpose. Dudes not gonna sit next to his sign with a bag of candy trying to get some strange.

If I'm new to the neighborhood, when I've settled down and married w/ children, I wanna know if my neighbor is a creep or not.

It's easy to find these people regardless of the signs. The news stations here remind the public on the reg on how to find them. It's amazing how many live near schools even though they aren't supposed to.
This is a typical overreaction. Predators are the dangerous ones here. Why not make it clear who is near your kids? If you were a parent you may feel differently.
I don't mind the signs as long as they keep them for predators alone.

Really?

Yes, really. You can look online. You're notified when they move in. You need the sign to remember or something?

Sometimes it takes a few days to get internet/cable installed after moving to a new living arrangement, so the signs would then serve its purpose.

Never received a notice of predators in my old neighborhood. What do you mean you are notified?
You don't have kids do you?

You get something in the mail telling you, at least you do in Alabama

You don't look before you move into an area?

No, I assume the signs are in Florida. Maybe you guys don't do the mail thing. I assumed everyone did

Why the mercy for sexual predators? They are dangerous folks with a high recidivism rate.

I mean, if it's a deal that looks too good to be true, an issue like this could possibly slip your mind.

Why would you not do the research before you bought/ rented the house? So you are going to buy the house and then try and find out if sexual predators live nearby?

So the good deal means more to you than your kid's safety?
Got it.

This is hypothetical for me. I don't have a kid.
I'm just trying to think of a situation that would make the signs necessary.

Its not mercy. We don't mark vehicles with people who have multiple DUIs or signs in front of houses with violent but not sexual crimes, do we?
I see why some people may want them but I honestly don't see them that effective. If we're worried about them hurting someone again then put them in a mental health facility or keep them in jail IMO.

Exactly. I wouldn't want the presence of these signs to:
1. Possibly lower my property value if ever I decided to sell my property.
2. Encourage vigilante justice or increased traffic in the neighborhood due to those seeking said vigilante justice.

They will certainly be effective for their intended purpose.
I'm all for locking repeat offenders away for a very long time. I'm also for their castration though. I have a daughter and knowing where these fools are is better than not knowing.
Hypothetical:
I check my neighborhood online and am satisfied that I know enough to keep my kids safe. However, I take my child to a sleepover in a different neighborhood and see a sign near the house I'm taking them to. Now I can make an informed decision as to whether or not to let the child stay over without having to search the offender website for every place the child goes. If know where the lion's den is I have a better chance of avoiding the lion.

Why would you not do the same research you do for your neighborhood prior to taking your child to the different neighborhood for a sleepover?

How hard is it to do the research before hand. I mean it is your child's safety we're talking about, right?
