Nah I don't support. I'd call it cruel and unusual punishment.

I'm quite familiar with the recidivism rates among actual sexual predators.

Not all of those on the registry are created equally though. What about the 17 year old that had sex with his 16 year old girlfriend? What about the drunk frat boy that pissed in a corner and got caught close to a school at night?

Not sexual predators, therefore they sign thing would not apply.

If you look at maps of sex offenders locations on the watch dog sites you'll notice that they cluster. I think the signs are a waste of money because chances are you're only warning other sex offenders to stay away.

I do not believe your examples would be classified as predators as I understand the law.

But they're lumped in sometimes and forced to register. It only takes on angry mother to put a teenage guy in some states on that list.

I agree with you on the fact that some are lumped into sex offender status unjustly. I also agree that having a sign in the yard of a sexual predator is not right.

This. Some unfortunate kid could get stapped with one of these signs because he got caught with the wrong parents' daughter

Forced to register?

The court registers you. An offender or predator here has to keep the courts informed of your location and other details but registration is not up to you.

Predator does not equal offender. Peeing on a golf course can get you offender status but not predator status. It's happened here before. A guy peed on the course and a mother and child saw him. The mother called the cops. He's now an offender but not a predator.

A guy can be convicted of statutory rape if he is 18 and has sex with his 16 year old girlfriend, or if he's 17 and has sex with his 15 year old girlfriend, depending on the legal age of consent in said state, and it doesn't matter how long they've been together. It happens all the time and it's fricked up.

Is statutory rape a first or second degree felony?

I have zero problem with a sign if someone is convicted of multiple rapes or any instance of child rape.

It encourages vigilante justice and lowers neighborhood property values. I'd rather the lowlife convicted of multiple rapes or raping a child spend their days locked up. Or in their own little housing complexes.

I'm absolutely ok with this, as long as it isn't one of the instances that I specified.

It won't be long before the signs get blamed for violence and they have to take them down

I'm not aware of any 17 year old that boinked his 16 year old GF being classified as a "predator".

They tend to save the predator status for the real scumbags.

I moved away from my last neighborhood in part because I searched the sexual offender website and there were 3 within 5 blocks away in almost every direction. Their offense ranged from distribution of porn to minors to sex with minors.
