Although, I'm a little confused on how you can be a sex offender and get/keep a job as a cop.

Personally, I think it's a little tacky and real estate agents will have a fit about it. But the law does support it

Do not support because some cases are so mild it doesn't really constitute the perpetrator being dangerous.
I have a friend who is a registered sex offender just because he texted a girl he knew some sexual remarks as a joke (and said girl would have laughed) but the girls mom had her phone and read the messages and charged him, even though her daughter begged her not to.
A sign like this is embarrassing and ruins someone's life. I only support it if it is only for those who were found guilty of violent/sick sexual crimes like pedophilia or rape.

Yes there is a difference. I could have sworn I've seen a thread on this recently, but it may have been on the other OT. Someone broke down the difference and to be labeled a sexual predator it has to be pretty severe. Let me see if I can find that other thread.
