Update:

As long as this thread is stickied perhaps we should us it as the Severe Weather Thread. Please feel free to post severe weather watches and warnings when necessary.

Update - Day 2 Afternoon:

TSTMS HAVE RAPIDLY INCREASED IN INTENSITY ACROSS ERN AR AND NRN MS. THE ENVIRONMENT IS BECOMING INCREASINGLY FAVORABle DMGG WINDS...LARGE HAIL...AND PERHAPS A FEW TORNADOES. A WW WILL LIKELY BE COORDINATED SOON WITH LOCAL FORECAST OFFICES.

DISCUSSION...NRN SEGMENT OF MCS MOVING ACROSS AR HAS FRAGMENTED ACROSS CNTRL AR...AND IS PROGRESSING NEARLY DUE EWD ACROSS ERN AR.

ADDITIONAL MORE DISCRETE STORMS HAVE DEVELOPED ACROSS NRN MS. VWP DATA FROM NQA SHOWS FAVORABLY BACKED SFC WINDS WITH VEERING IN THE 0-1 KM LAYER...RESULTING IN 0-1 SRH NEAR 150 M^2 S^-2.

ADDITIONALLY...BREAKS IN CLOUDINESS HAVE RESULTED IN TEMPERATURESHEATING UP INTO THE UPPER 70S TO LOWER 80S F...RESULTING IN AN INCREASINGLY UNSTABLE ENVIRONMENT. THIS WILL BE FAVORABLE FOR LARGE HAIL AND DMGG WINDS...AS WELL AS TORNADOES ESPECIALLY WITH DISCRETE STORMS. A WW WILL BE COORDINATED SOON

Update - Day 2 Morning:

Arkansas, SW Missouri, and Tennessee in path of violent t-storms.

Update - Night 1:

Over 90 reported dead in OK. Weather Service reporting that Table Rock Lake, MO, Branson, MO, Harrison, AR...soon to be hit by what appears to be a tornado on radar. Take shelter immediately...the announcer actually said if you are in a mobile home, get into your car and drive north or south because you will die if you remain in your home.

Earlier:

F5 reported just outside of Oklahoma City. 50 + dead and rising.

Storm track has the storm arriving in Missouri (Joplin) at approximately 8:00 PM, Springfield, MO not long after.

This storm is a killer.

Thank God I have a tornado shelter built into the foundation of my home. However, I don't want to deal with this shite, especially at night.

I hate when storms blow thru at night. You can't see what's coming. All you can rely on is the TV, emergency radio, or phone.

It seems like the most dangerous storms blow through the Springfield area at night. WTF!

The dudes on the live feed out of OKC are saying this is "the worst tornado damage in the history of the world."

I hope they are being dramatic.

I wouldn't move to Moore, Oklahoma for anything. Per wiki:

quote:

The city of Moore has been damaged by significant tornadoes on October 4, 1998, May 3, 1999, May 8, 2003, May 10, 2010, and May 20, 2013. The May 3, 1999 tornado that hit Moore was rated an F5 on the Fujita scale, and was one of the strongest (Probably the strongest single tornado ever) and most destructive tornadoes in world history

Updated at 5:41 p.m. ET: Lance West, a reporter for CNN affiliate KFOR, says there are people pulling students from a classroom at an elementary school heavily damaged by the tornado that hit Moore, Oklahoma. There are no immediate reports on the condition of the children.
