Uhm. No.

The Mississippis put on airs with the best but everybody knows there's no substance to back any of that up. Florida is Ohio State south. South Carolina has as many New Jerseys as Palmettos. And the Alabamas have too many pretenders - real frat doesn't come from the Birmingham and Atlanta 'burbs.

Where I don't really agree with you, I see your point.

quote:

That leaves Georgia - strong history in tennis and golf, sound academics, strong Greek scene; and Vandy - they're Vandy. Throw them in with UVA, UNC, Sewanee, CoC, and Washington & Lee and that's the CC of the South.

While true and it's kinda hard to argue against this ... it's the SEC Country Club we are talking about and I can assure you it's not Georgia and Georgia alone in it.

Florida does not belong. Sorry. Gainesville is the furthest thing from a country club. Oxford, Athens and Nashville for sure. Tuscaloosa too, I guess.

Then Who does I agree to me they really don't fit but they do EXCEL in the CCsports though ...

I have had many people bash my opinion but very few offer up there's ... so who do you think should be and why?

Nice idea and all, but the SEC Country Club sounds like the Mudville City Golf Course when you look beyond the swooped bangs, frat T's, and stickered Yetis.

Too much trying and not enough pedigree.

I really don't think it is as bad as you portray it to be in all honesty.

I'd be willing to bet that folks aren't bashing your opinion as much as they're shaking their heads at your question/entire premise. From start to finish, your comments were juvenile (e.g., "prestigious SEC Country Club," "preppy," "Greek population," "country club sports," "don't primarily deal in military/agricultural/engineering field," "flagship institutions," "enjoy and attend country club events") and demonstrated a head-scratching simplicity and gross lack of worldly knowledge.

I asked earlier how old you are, as something tells me you have little to no life experience. I guess if you're just a pup, it's not entirely your fault that a variable like preppy would impress you more than military.

Keep on keepin' on, guy.

Wow.

Did you just brag about Baton Rouge's parks?

You really need to get out of state more often.

But yes, LSU is a country club of sorts. I was Greek at LSU. Sporting a Polo shirt right now.

But Baton Rouge parks? I love City Park and the lakes but outside of that, it pretty much blows.

Okay here is where I struggled I looked at LSU, UK, Arky & UTK all of these schools I felt met a lot of the criteria to make this group though I also felt in many cases that they just fell short due to some reason I have stated before.

I felt that out of these the two toughest to overlook were UK & LSU. I have stated my reason earlier as why I left out UK but in the case of LSU there was only one reason IMO ... I felt the perception of your sidewalk fans(corndogs) outweighed the reality of your student/alumni base ... plus y'all be crazy as hell, I keed but seriously that was it.

I feel that I could easily add UK & LSU to this group though.

First I'm sorry I didn't answer you question earlier ... I'm 25 ... so yes you could say I'm just a pup.

Okay I think I very much approached this at the wrong angle yes I used juvenile ideas and criteria to make these assessments but it also boils down to a way of thinking or mentality as well.

Example a farmer looks at live way differently than let's say a wall street guy does.

This is in way what I mean when I go into this discussion about who belongs and who doesn't. I don't think any less of you or your school because you are not a part of this idea nor should it belittle you or your school not to be in it; vice versa it isn't meant to tout the other schools as well. I guess to some extent this is a question you yourself if you feel that your school qualifies or doesn't qualify for the Country Club mentality. Example Ole Miss without a doubt falls under this reasoning whether you find it as false bravado or not its true. Georgia and Alabama are very similar to us in this as well. I just find it more a way of thinking than all the other stuff I really listed but to me much of that does stem from this train of thought.

It's not really a dick measuring contest as to who has the most money, houses, boats, club memberships, etc.

I'm OK with that....but based on that if you are putting Bama in you can't keep LSU out.....IMHO (in my homer opinion).

I gave you four schools.

My criteria was simply Old South ambience and frat all star and sororistitute talent.

Add LSU and Kentucky if you feel the need to make it six instead of four.

ETA:Carolina also works instead of LSU. Matters not to me if my alma mater makes your list or not.

You're welcome.

Did you not read the in between stuff where I talked about being more about the mentality of it than the materialistic aspect of this.

And thank you for pushing that red button on the Aggie posters foreheads.

Not that you really had to put much effort into that...

America's Preppiest Colleges of 2012

Only one SEC school listed.

From the Urban Dictionary:

Most of the best definitions of preppy have emphasized Northern or New England birthrite preppies, but let's not forget about Southern preppies, as in folks living in Mountain Brook, Alabama, or the West End, Virginia, or the Garden District in Louisiana, or Buckhead, Georgia, or Belle Meade, Tennessee (if you've never heard of these Old Guard, old-money, preppy southern suburbs, than you're not a birthrite prep). Southern preppies wear most of the same classic clothes and styles as their northern cousins, including Lacoste, Lilly, L.L. Bean, Vineyard vines, Topsiders, Brooks Brothers, tevas, Polo, and especially Patagonia (shorts and fleece are key for guys). And the more monograms, the better. Girls love grosgrain and totes from Vineyard Vines and Bean. They also like outerwear by Barbour, Cole-Haan bit loafers, and wallobies by Clark. Southern preppy girls have straight, shoulder length hair. Their preppy mothers and grandmothers may have stiff, helmut hairstyles that haven't changed in decades. Preppy guys have longish, shaggy, wind blown hair. So do their daddies. They look so much alike. Preppy Southerners would attend day schools such as Altamont or Westminster or Harpeth Hall or boarding schools such as Woodberry Forest or Baylor or Foxcroft or Madiera, rather than a New England prep school. For college, they may attend state schools such as Bama or UVA or UNC or private colleges such as Vanderbilt or W&L or Hamden-Sydney (the preppiest school in the country according to Lisa Birnbach). And they will almost always join a fraternity or sorority. Preppy families live in historic or historic looking houses in nice, woodsy neighborhoods, that are comfortable in size but never ostentatious (no electronic gates!) Inside, family antiques, silver, china and portraits are found and all rooms are always used. It is an elegant yet comfortable environment. Southern preppies and their families belong to private town clubs and country clubs such as the Piedmont Driving Club of Atlanta, the Commonwealth Club of Richmond, and the Mountain Brook Club of Birmingham. Southern preppy families don't emphasize cars as status, but typically drive volvo wagons, mercedes sedans, Jeep Cherokees, Hondas, and sometimes SUVs (although they feel guilty about them!). It is more important to have money in the bank than in the driveway! Southern preppies enjoy sports such as tennis, sailing, soccer, lacrosse, and golf, but also quail hunting (in season) and attend Steeplechases in Virginia, Tennessee and Georgia. And they love to watch and attend college football games in fall. Tailgate parties! While some southern preppies journey northwards to summer on Martha's Vineyard or in Maine, most old southern families summer on Sea Island or St. Simmons's Island in Georgia, the mountain towns of Linville and Highlands in North Carolina, or the north Georgia lakes of Lake Rabun and Lake Burton. Southern preppies believe strongly in giving back to the community and are active members of their church, sit on symphony and museum boards, volunteer at children's hospitals, and run historic preservation societies. In fact, most old-family southern debutantes are required to participate in volunteer work during their debut season. Old-family, southern debutante balls are still important and traditional rites of passage for southern preppy girls as debs and preppy boys as escorts or marshalls. All southern preppies seem to know one another and have a large group of friends and acquaintances. Southern preppies have large, extended families and lots of cousins. They always go to the family country place for Thanksgiving and play football and ride horses. Preppy as a fashion trend may come and go, by preppy as a lifestyle will always continue and exist, and probably more so in the South than elsewhere. Remember: the Virginia colonies were settled by England before Massachusetts and the rest of New England. And Virginia is very prep.
