They say the easiest way for people to start picking it up is by trying to read something in a dream. Apparently there is something weird about the words on the page or something.

I've had two lucid dreams which I remember. The first one I was able to make myself soar straight up from the earth into the sky and back down again, but my "booster" our whatever you want to call it was very sensitive. The moment I thought about "taking off" I would start accelerating extremely fast and I would "feel" the G's and be way up in the sky before I knew it which was really scary.
My other dream I was hanging out with random friends in some 2 story diner without my shoes on, and it was just so odd that I knew I was dreaming. On my way walking out the diner, I saw Christina Hendricks and thought "here's my chance to do her." As soon as I got close enough to grab her a voice in my head went "NOOOOOOO!" and I started spinning out of control and forced myself to wake up, and even right after I woke up I still felt like I was spinning. I guess that's the weirdest part of lucid dreaming for me - you get the feeling of movement in your stomach/body even though your lying perfectly still.

I think you may have that confused.I've always heard that it's impossible to read things in a dream.
I heard the main way to start picking it up is to try to turn a light switch on or off while dreaming.

Yeah, I read an article about it like a year ago. I might be confused.

I have a pretty severe case of chronic insomnia, so when I'm able to fall asleep (normally induced by diazepam or alprazolam) I normally have lucid dreams. As for lucid dream stories, mine are pretty tame. Normally just involves me doing stuff in my apartment. I have a tendency to sleepwalk so I'm kind of scared to venture outside of my apartment in my dream. I can never see any part of my body though, and when I move to different parts of my apartment I don't actually move, the apartment moves for me (hard to explain). There's also something strange about TVs but I'm never able to figure out what's off about them.

is there something I can do to wake up
Mirrors always work for me. I can never see my reflection for some reason, so I wake up whenever I look at a mirror. Also, digital clocks wake me up. They never have numbers, just weird symbols (like the symbols from Lost). I see them and I get confused and next thing I know I'm awake.
All that said, I don't recommend trying to have one by taking anything not prescribed for you. Those drugs can seriously frick you up if they aren't monitored properly.

This has been my experience. Like I can see thing that have stuff written on the (letters, mail, work, open book, etc) but if I actually try to read something I get incredibly confused. Then the dream gets a weird vibe so I go wake myself up. I'm a puss

For me I usually wake up briefly, realize I was dreaming, and go back to sleep and pick up where the dream left off. It never lasts very long though. I don't think I ever realized I was dreaming in the dream state without waking up for at least a few seconds. Whats real fun is when I sleep and have 2 or 3 completely different dreams throughout the night. I have also heard, if you go to bed drunk you don't have dreams, but that is completely false.

The trick I've always used is to ask yourself if you're dreaming throughout the day while you're awake. Just be sitting at your desk and ask yourself 'is this a dream?'
If you train yourself to do this while you're awake, when you are actually dreaming at night you will ask yourself in the dream. If it's clear you're in a dream, you will become semi-conscious but stay in the dream if it works. This won't work EVERY time because sometimes you'll just wake up, but it does work regularly.
I frick my hot coworkers every night, or I fly over a city or swim with dolphins in the ocean. It actually makes me excited to go to bed knowing that I'll have kickass dreams.

False, while I love marijuana, it inhibits dreaming.
The best thing to take if you want to lucid dream without any training is Benadryl. Take two of those before bed and you can lucid dream all night. The only downside is it dehydrates you already, so if you're in an intense dream and it causes a night sweat, you will be VERY dried out in the morning. It also causes grogginess, so my advice is to just train yourself like I stated above.

Ive had one lucid dream. As soon as i realized i was dreaming, I did what everyone else does. I decided to fly. I got 20 feet up in the air, got scared, and woke up. Have not been able to do it since.
