Why is is that so many people who could have been GOAT's went out in either a scandal or some kind of hu ha? Please add to my list if I missed them
These guys worked their entire lives to get to the pinnacle then fricked it up somehow

Joe Paterno (Winningest Coach in College football history) - Flames out in a child molestation ring then dies just after

Barry Bonds - (Current MLB Home Run leader) - Caught up in Steroid controversy and may never been crowned HR king

TIger Woods - (On his way to GOAT golf status) - Had a "ho" addiction that cost him his family, his career and his dignity. Not out of it yet but he shows no signs of regaining his golf game

Michael Jackson - (The king of pop) - We all knew Mike was weird but he will always be known as a child molester and just overall weird-o.

Bruce Jenner - (One of the most recognized US Olympian ever) - Just LULZ

Lance Armstrong - (Tour DeFrance King) - Goes down crying to Opra about his doping scandal and his dishonesty about it

OJ Simpson - One of the greatest RB's of all time - Killed his woman and the dude she was doing - Got away with it in one of the biggest scandal court cases of all time. In jail now

Pete Rose - (All Time MLB hits leader) - Caught up gambling on baseball. Became outcast and denied entry in Hall of Fame when it was clearly earned. Remains ineligible for HOF.

Hulk Hogan - Was known as the greatest WWE showman ever - All traces removed from website and banned due to racial slurs - Also petered out in a array of scandals between wife and sex tapes.

I am sure there are more..

Almost every one of these folks brought it on themselves through calculated dishonesty. frick them.

Dont know about Michael. he might be the victim of his dad and his fame. Definitely to blame for the kiddy shite though.

Paterno I consider a tragedy. Stood for all thats right in the game of football, but dealt very poorly with a IRL situation that became bigger than he was. He is partially to blame for it because he tolerated sandusky on some level and by wishing it wasnt real, allowed it to happen.

Len Bias (College Basketball, Drafted but never played due to death in NBA) - Drafted #2 overall from Maryland to the Boston Celtics in 1986. Died of cardiac arrhythmia as a result of cocaine overdose. Red Auerbach told everyone at his memorial service that he had planned on drafting Bias for 3 years and there are a few who'd argue he could've at least been a GOAT small forward in the NBA.

ETA: It was pretty scandalous in the aftermath given how it went down and looking back how many drafted in that '86 class ended up fricked up from drugs. Sad, but still scandalous.

I thought about Pete but he really was not a GOAT. Tyson was close to making my list as well. People will always say he did not fight enough to make the GOAT status

I wouldn't say he went out in scandal. He was making a "comeback" concert before he died, and all the memorials and tributes after his death showed that people still respected him.

I would add Woody Hayes.

Michael could have admitted to raping 100 teens and some people would have always loved him. Some people just DGAF. But that dude went out in scandal. Killed by illegal drugs by a doctor on his payroll. With millions thinking he was a child molester.

OJ was a good one. I will add him

Yes, but the interesting part is the opposite of this. More like train wrecks that did not crash and burn especially in the age of reality star TV.

If you are saying there were probably more but we did not hear about them due to not having a cell phone stuck in their face every step of the way, I agree.

He didn't really tolerate Sandusky... he simply didn't want anything to do with him and let the AD handle it, who Sandusky happened to be tight with. And I don't think he knew what was going on. If I went to my 82 year old grandpa and told him I saw a man and a kid "horsing around", he would think they were running around or fighting.

But I really appreciate you having a clear mind about it- it seems rare on message boards for people to actually be reasonable about Joe
