I just think it's fascinating that so many people believe in ghosts despite the vast majority of belief systems in this country not allowing for it.
Whether you're atheist, christian, jewish or muslim there is no room for the lost souls of dead people wandering the earth after death. Either you believe that we don't have souls at all or said souls are in a distinct heaven/hell/wherever.
I think a lot of people who claim to believe things really don't think them all the way thrugh when it comes to stuff like this. Almost nobody should believe in ghosts in this part of the world if they thought about it. Eastern religions are a different matter.

No but some hauntings such as those of a demonic presence are. It is especially believed in the Catholic church.
There is different folklore on the existence of purgatory and the process of being put to rest properly and such. Many burial traditions exist today based on these old beliefs. You also have to realize there are many things that were supposedly "left out" of scripture that people can't comprehend or don't need to know about.
1 for example is the Grand Grimoire..a centuries old book that the Catholic Church claims it has had locked away since the Dark ages.. a book of Satanic rituals and spells that is said to be so powerful that if in the wrong hands could destroy the world. They say the book cannot be torn, burned, or destroyed in any way.

I recently bought a new house. The old one was, well, old, and falling in pieces. So I said, "yeah, it's time to move". So I moved to this house. It's so cool! It's three stores tall! And I bought it by a nice price. There was nothing wrong with it. Well...
The seller never showed me the 3rd floor. He just refused it, said "It was only the attic and something else, nothing too important". This made me curious. I was going to see what the fuss was all about, but what the hell, it was late at night, and I was tired. Tomorrow is a brand new day.
The next day, I woke up in a jump, like when you wake up from a nightmare, but... I don't even remember what the dream was about. Oh well, who cares. Today was a new day, and I was currently on vacation, hellz yeah! Let's play some games and-
Oh yeah. The third floor.
Well, ok. It's not that bad, It's a nice and spacy attic, and it has a little room on the other side. However... there is a sign on the room's door that reads "DO NOT ENTER: FORBIDDEN". Well, maybe that's where the old guy here put all his porn, I guess. Wow, what the hell am I thinking.
Anyway.
I tried the handle. Locked. Great, now I'm even more curious. It's locked pretty tight. I'll need a crowbar or something.
Hey. I have a crowbar on my toolbox. I'll get it and- oh wait a sec. Someone on the door.
It was Matt. We are having a gaming night on his house, hell yeah! I'll probably be back late... the door won't go away, it can wait.
(after the gaming night, Kyle went to sleep on his new house).
God. I just had a nightmare. And guess what? It was about the room. I dreamed there was this weird creature that got out of the room, and killed me in my sleep. Damn. I was so curious, I needed to check out what was inside. I got the crowbar, and headed to the door.
That's it, I'm opening this thing.
I forced and forced, until I heard a metallic "clank".
The adrenaline... I could feel it all over my body. Whatever was inside, BRING IT ON.
I opened the door...
Get on the floor,
Everybody walk the dinosaur!!

Also lets hear various ghost/spooky stories.
Kind of long so bear with me.
Started out I used to be like most and thought ghost were BS. I had a random roommate one time who was in a bad car accident, where he was actually "dead" but was revived in the ambulance and ended up recovering. He retold me what it was like, how he had an "out of body" experience and saw the wreck in 3rd person as he hit. Since the wreck, he claimed to be sensitive to the paranormal and would sense and see spirits at times. I didn't believe that, but then he went on a typical drunk ghost hunt to a haunted old church that was supposedly a place of demon worship.
After that, on some days he kept freaking out at times, swearing up and down a demon was appearing to him and telling him "he would be called upon when the 6th seal was broken". I finally told him 'prove it" one day when he stated the demon was present in the room. He called out and said "show yourself" and that exact moment all of my kitchen cabinets flew open and plates spilled everywhere. Freaked me the frick out.
The experience did spark my interest in the paranormal though. It is very intriguing to look into. I've found and seen some pretty cool shite...the key is going to haunted places that are legit, not some common known place or "ghost tour" of some old house. You have to find the places that local people refuse to step foot in or on. And you have to go many times, as you aren't guaranteed every time that anything weird will happen. It is hit or miss. Best time is between midnight and 3 a.m.
A few of my encounters were the Mount Holly plantation in Glen Allan, ms where a door slammed shut, and something grabbed my arm in thin air. Then the Law Mansion, where I saw the specter of Susie B. Law who died there walking up the stairs carrying a lantern.
The Well witch of Belzoni, where a woman was raped and killed and thrown down her well on wasp lake. Go to the location and your truck will quit and won't start till the next day. Happened to me once.
Gates of Hell in Satartia, MS where a tribe of Indians drowned themselves in the Yazoo river in the Civil War. Saw weird strobes of light, temperature rise of 30 degrees, radio screen on my truck glowed yellow when I had everything turned off. Weird smell of sulfur in the air.
Most people don't believe in paranormal, because they don't want to and don't find a reason to. IMO it is very real, but to what extent I don't know. I just know some of it exists.

Until one is legitimately recorded and it's not something a human psyche and emotional state created on its own, then negative.

Any "recording" of ghosts is absolute bullshite because electronics go haywire when in the presence of an entity. The only thing you can do is take a numerous pictures with a disposable camera and hope you capture something.
You can't go off of "video" evidence to determine your belief in the paranormal...if you're curious then go find out firsthand. If not, then just form your own opinion and let it be.

I didn't stay at my apt for awhile, that's for sure. The guy ended up going to counseling it affected him so bad. I guess whatever it was quit bothering him, to my knowledge. It was a weird deal though..i've never personally seen a guy so truly frightened.
It makes some sense though, since he was in a wreck and technically died then revived, his soul would have crossed the threshold and then came back, so in theory I would imagine that would make him sensitive to spiritual activity.

I have no problem with the idea of angels/demons appearing to people. I just laugh when someone moves into a house and talks about the former owner haunting it or some thing like that despite claiming to believe something contradictory.

I don't think something just haunts houses really, but if you believe in purgatory, or being stuck between realms for whatever reason, I could see it.
There are many things we don't understand about the universe IMO.

Wasn't that link provided by the poster Mike J Cocks? I'm pretty sure that was proven to be a hoax done by Cocks himself. I think it was filmed in New Orleans.

Ghosts? I don't know. Paranormal? Absolutely.
I recently moved out of my friend's house on Oak Forest Dr. in Montgomery, AL. This house was built in around the 1940s. My room shared a wall with the living room, and just on the other side of that wall was the entertainment center. One night at about 12:30 AM, I was in bed and I heard one of the drawers of the entertainment center slide open. After a few seconds, I heard someone moving things around in the drawer as if they were looking for something. Then I heard the drawer slide close. There weren't any lights on because none was coming under my door. If it was my roommate, he would have had to pass right by my door to get back to his room, and there is only very old wood flooring that covers 90% of the house. However, I didn't hear any footsteps. So I get out of bed, look around the house, and I didn't find anyone. I knocked on my roommate's door and he doesn't answer. I knock harder and he finally opens it. He looks and sounds like I just woke him up, and he claims that he was asleep. That was my first experience in that house.
About a year later, another friend moves into a room in the back of the house. This room has a door that opens into the kitchen, right next to the refrigerator. He put a welcome mat outside of his bedroom door. One morning, around 8:30 AM, I go to the kitchen to get some breakfast. As I open the freezer, I see the corner the welcome mat lift up about 3" and slap down. So I stand there for a minute just looking at the mat, trying to process what I just saw and heard. There's no wires, no draft, I just can't find any explanation for what happened. While I'm trying to think of a reason, my friend opens his door and walks out of his room. I ask him what he was doing the past few minutes, and he says he just got out of bed (on the other side of the room), got a shirt out of his closet (right next to the bed) and walked out.
Both of my roommates had experiences themselves. I'll go into what they saw if people want me to.

The idea behind certain houses, or objects, being haunted or cursed is that a previous owner was attached to it for some reason and follows it around.
Say owner gets stuck in between realms, and clings to something he valued. Usually a home where he/she lived. They can't let it go.
This is not in the case of "weird noises in an old house" but more of a case where things actually move, doors shut, etc. It is not the spirit trying to scare you, but more of "communicate" with you because it is lonely.
But that is merely theory that I'm repeating..there is so much interesting lore out there. What's crazy is how many common things we do that were derived from paranormal beliefs years ago.
Go look up the history of Halloween and Samhain, for one example. It explains where the costume, jack o lanterns, and all of that really came from. The Celtics used to do that every year at end of harvest season, to communicate with the dead as it was thought that was the time of year that the underworld and the humans were closest together. They wore costumes to disguise themselves from Samhain, an evil spirit thought to walk the earth on that night. They left food and treats on their doorsteps, to satisfy him so he wouldn't attack. Sound familiar?
