Bingo.
Only alters get upset about it. No other new posters even know what an alter is... they're just excited people are talking to them. They confuse it with thinking they're interesting and being accepted as one of the cool kids.

It's not for your appreciation.
It's for you to go "what's an alter" and me to go "that's exactly what an alter would say." We have long since forgotten why we do this, it's just the way things have always been and will always be.
