I have an opportunity to go to a multi day work shop for an industry I work with, but I could also go to one in Indianapolis for a similar workshop, so I'm trying to decide. Been to Indy, it's alright. Is The Woodlands just basically a rich burb of Houston?

Great place to live and will be fine to hang out at (nice restaurants and such), but if you're going just to party id stick with a major city.

Very high end area. Big homes, nice cars, and lots of trees in many areas covering up the visibility of some businesses. Has a mall too.

If you like a nice quiet "foofoo" area to live it's perfect for you.

Google says it's about 40 minutes to Houston? I just don't want to be stuck in the hotel bored once the workshops are over. Hoping to network some at said workshop and grab drinks with folks I meet. The workshop is all day so I really just need something to do from 5 PM-ish and on.
Knowing all of that, would you still go to Indy over The Woodlands?

Also the Pavilion right next to the mall hosts quite a few good concerts a year.

Ok, that makes more sense then. FWIW I'd be staying at The Woodlands Waterway Marriott.

Nice. Sounds like it'll be low key, which actually might be a good thing considering.

Marriott is pretty nice. Plenty of restaurants and bars in that area so if you're going for a week, you could hit one every night within walking distance and not repeat. Don't know much about Indy, but if all you need is a place to have drinks and dinner for 4-5 hours, the woodlands would be fine.

Nail on the head. I've done Indy a half dozen times in the last couple years so looking for a change of pace anyways. I'm gonna try the Woodlands. thanks

Grew up in The Woodlands. If you are on The Waterway i would go to the Taco Stand for mango margaritas. They have a great tequila bar. Start off at Bar Louie next door then head over to Baker Street pub for a more lively crowd. Not too much of a club atmosphere there just local bars. But Crush Wine bar use to have an on the roof scene with a DJ and some music as well as Americas (but inside) at nights on Fri and Sat. Been a couple of years since i have gone so im not sure they are still doing that. There is also Jaspers and Tommy Bahamas nearby in an outdoor nice shopping area across from the Pavilion. And theres a nice sports bar called Stadia there as well.
Not sure if you golf but there are like 5 or 6 courses in The Woodlands and a Top Golf shooting range a few miles away.
Need anything else let me know.
Edit: I also recommend Fielding's wood grill (2 miles from Waterway) for a great beer list and food. Tasty local beers include Karbach and Buffalo Bayou Brewery.

When is the workshop? I also grew up in The Woodlands. Some good recommendations in here already. The bars there are pretty low key, mostly people 30-35 drinking right after work. There are tons of good restaurants around your hotel that you can walk to also. If the workshop is in the summer it might be better to go to Indianapolis though

Also definitely fly into Bush and not Hobby (Southwest) if you come here. Hobby is on the south side of Houston so it's a fricking two hour nightmare trying to get there from The Woods. I flew Southwest for the first time at like 24 because my parents refused to go down there

Awesome feedback I will most certainly be trying out most of those places. Thanks so much
I'm not too good but I do enjoy it. You just sold me

Solid advice; thank you. The workshop is in August so I'm sure it's gonna be hot as balls.

If you stay near/at the Marriott there's a walk way along the water way that is a nice place to stroll or run. If you cross to the opposite side of the river there is a koi fish pond garden that is a hidden gem.

Stay in Louisiana! Texas is full.
But in all seriousness, The Woodlands is one of the older suburban communities of Houston. Overall, nothing to rave about. Some nice houses and subdivisions, but nothing that sets it apart as far as night scene. Even though there are two freeways headed towards Houston from The Woodlands (Interstate + Toll Road), it's a long commute.

I'd do Indy, take in the minor league baseball team have some craft brews. Indy can be fun, small big town.
Woodlands is just a suburb of a huge arse city and has nothing to offer other than concerts at the pavilion.

It has more nightlife than your average suburb. It's not great but having a centralized area with 5-6 bars you can walk around to is a lot more than most suburbs offer

Both are not the best option. The woodlands are nothing special just another Houston suburb with chain resturaunts and strip malls.
