its going to take a long while because hard core religious nuts are going to throw a shite fit over it in the south. I love the south but the religious nuts really hold back our progress

Do you have a reason, or are you just going to keep saying no over and over again?

Because I see how people work at my hospital with only occasional use. If it were legal it would only get worse. Last thing I want is someone too relaxed in patient care.

well private jobs would still be able to say you can't smoke. it would just stop the gov from throwing people in jail over it. its not like making it legal makes it a free for all.

Arkansas will pass medical in 2014. Came painfully close in 2012.

The religious conservative types are a challenge, but the demographics are quickly improving. The Baby Boomers are becoming the old people now, and their split on the issue is a lot closer to the middle than the "greatest" generation.

My target is somewhere within 10-15 years, and an outside shot at sooner. fricking Arkansas almost pulled it off during the last election. Arkansas isn't exactly Portland.

Arkansas does have liberals that aren't black, though.

Its not a typical SE state in that regard.

A prevailing argument for the hardcore pro-legalize crowd is that a ton of "professionals" smoke marijuana. At least I've heard that tossed around here (TD) quite a bit.

The mid term elections are a harder proposition. Simply because the people who bother to vote tend to be older, and your motivated Arkansas voters will almost certainly be of the conservative stripe. I really hope you get it done though. Keep fighting the good fight Fayetteville.

If not, 2016 is almost certainly going to pass it.

The thinking here is that a non-presidential election would be easier, due to lower turn out.

There will be large segments of the population who vote simply for the chance to pass it.

I feel fairly confident.

Arkansas went for Romney, so its not like there was an overly liberal turn out in 2012. The anti-Obama folks were the least likely to vote in favor anyway.

I wouldn't touch that bet.

Where do the people live though? Yes, I realize N La might as well be the Delta West, but their population isn't what the south is. The problem of course is getting a good enough split in the south to outweigh the big split in the north.

Tanget: Religious Conservatives (politically speaking) are hilarious. Jesus talks about helping the poor, like everywhere in the gospels. Does he mention weed, abortion, or gays? So obviously they are super supportive of big business (like they really grasp the economics behind it) and fight with vigor against the above mentioned social issues.

The south.

How the frick do you actually believe this? California's marijuana production is more than quadruple Kentucky's. If you know anything about math, you would realize that Kentucky probably represents something closer to 10-12%.

Dude, I'm just going by what I saw on a History documentary. Also apparently you've never been in the hills of East Kentucky. And again that just shows you how much dope is grown in the US.

Yea but in the ghetto arse area of Birmingham it'll be a free for all. We have people that show up drunk.

And it's not doctors I'm worried about. It's the support staff. What happens when latiesha the food services employee gives a patient the wrong food plate and it has food they're allergic to? All becaused she showed up work half buzzed.

I get where the theory is coming from. Betting on the motivated pot smoking vote though...dangerous game.

Oh I know Arkansas isn't a liberal utopia. I'm more or less getting at the people most likely to oppose the measure are more likely to be motivated to go to the polls this time around.

This is all opinion on a state I've only driven through, so clearly you should take my expert opinion as gospel.
