Why does it go through the container and then explode?

Shouldn't it explode upon impact?

Probably so they can reuse the target a bunch of times

And cheaper to not use the full on loaded ones for practice

Just a guess

No. Much like an anti-tank shell...you want the warhead to penetrate the armor and then explode from the inside.

Also, that didn't have any warhead on the missile.

It actually explodes outside the armor forming a gas jet which is what penetrates the armor but it occurs in milliseconds which is why you don’t see it. Look up Munroe Effect if you are interested. Same concept as the explosive charges used in the oil field to complete wells. Some of the baws here have seen that no doubt.

ETA. In this video that is just a missile with no warhead penetrating solely with kinetic energy. The explosion on the video is just the fuel in the rocket igniting as the missile is destroyed by the impact.

This has to be Germans if the initial launch was from the USS KIDD. That thing has been docked for decades.

It’s actually shooting a a container ship docked in port Allen. Hope it didn’t hit the River Queen Cafe.

I just looked it up. A Tomahawk missile has a top speed of 550mph. The F18 has a top speed of 1,190 mph. Holy shite! Jimmy John's ain't got nothing on the F18.
