My doctors and my team around me have been great with how hard they pushed me, how far they pushed me. The results have been good so far — well, not even good, great.

What does “great” mean as far as a timetable for a return?

Just at the pace I’m improving, how well I’m improving. Some people may be aware, but they may not know about this injury. Usually you lose a lot of size in your leg and it takes a while to get that size basically where you have matching legs. For me, I didn’t lose any size in my leg, so that’s something that my doctors and the guys coaching me through this process have been raving about it. They are super excited about it.

I didn’t lose much strength. It’s a lot of positives. Like I said, everything’s been great and it’s in the right direction.

I'm no doctor but this sounds great. Elton Brand is the cautionary tale that concerned fans have pointed to regarding this injury, but what Boogie just said about his muscle mass and strength sounds VERY different than what Elton Brand experienced which lead to his decline. In this quote Brand seems to blame his leg muscles not properly recovering for the chain of injuries that came after and killed his career.

quote:

“The most frustrating part was the injuries,” said Elton Brand. “That Achilles really changed the trajectory of my career. That whole kinetic chain: once you get the calf, it’s the ankle, the knee, the hips, the back. No one’s really recovered from that Achilles injury and come back at the same level. That was really frustrating because I wanted to give Philly more. We made it to the playoffs. I did okay. I had a few serviceable seasons, but I wasn’t the same guy. I still had the atrophy on my left calf — which was my power leg — from that Achilles. And then, quickly, I had a torn labrum right after that. You know, just the injuries, and that happens.”

Again, I'm not a doctor and neither is Boogie, but putting those 2 statements next to each other really makes you feel there's a chance at a good recovery for Cousins.

Hat tip to Chad for the interview link, but that thread is focused on Free Agency, I thought this injury info was good enough for it's own thread.

im a glass half full kind of guy so its hard to not jump with excitement to hear something like this. however I will say, he could be doing this to boost his stock to not lose money this summer. I believe in Boogie and I think he can come back and exceed expectations, but I'm not going to get too excited too soon.

there are just anomalies in medicine. Adrian Peterson is a freak athlete that shattered every "return date" set for him. Some bodies heal better than others, some guys have less fear in testing their injuries, some guys narrowly escape re-injury when pushing too hard, others don't push hard enough. It isnt an exact science, nonetheless, whatever Boogie's reasoning behind the comments, its truly encouraging

well that sounds awesome and makes me want him to come back to the Pels.

Regardless of what happens this offseason with him, i hope he comes back as close to pre injury form as possible and gets his money over the next 6-8 years of his nba career. He's an easy guy to dislike from afar based on what you see on the internet and crap, but he's a genuine guy that cares about more than just basketball and that was clear to see once he became a Pel. Hope for nothing but the best for him.

He's a FA so you can't totally trust what he says about his recovery.

He didn't just say "my recovery is going great, I think I'm ahead of schedule!", he stated some facts that should be easy enough to verify by teams that there's not much point in telling such a specific lie.

You are going to hear nothing but glowing reports from his camp especially until his new contract is signed. Not that I would be saying anything else if I were him.

My bad on making a joke about someone who died 32 years ago, is it still too soon for JFK's death, too?
