I'm thinking of purchasing some. Surely that's a good long-term buy?

Why are you waiting on the split?

No real specific reason. I realize it's 6 one way and half a dozen the other but I'm just lazy, honestly. I'll transfer some money next week to get it ready to dump into it when the split happens. Do you think it'll rise significantly before the split?

Just get in today if you have the money. No need to wait for the split is the point

... and this my friends is the reason for stock splits. All of a sudden it's affordable! #optics

To answer your question as a long term AAPL holder, feel free to buy buy buy.

It’s amazing how uneducated the general public is about investing. Crazy that splits actually drive demand

I don't think it's crazy. Apple wouldn't split if they didn't see an advantage in doing so. Right?

It's never a guarantee, but some people would get in at $120 as opposed to sitting out at $460.

It's also possible many seasoned investors know this, and trade accordingly on the news and the actual split. Why else would a company do this? There are a few reasons, but the main one is to make the stock more attractive to retail investors. It's pure psychology at it's finest.

Which is the whole point of the thread... smart money would buy before the split and sell after. Not wait until after the run up and buy post split like OP suggested.

Long term it is meaningless. But short term we probably will (and have already honestly) see a bump from the split announcement.

While I agree with the first statement, investing/personal finance should be taught at least in high school, is the second really ‘crazy’?
A spilt lowers the entry cost to someone who couldn’t normally get in at the presplit price. I’ve never heard of opening accessibility to not drive initial demand of anything.

I mean, there is a reason all of these trading platforms are offering ‘slices’ of shares now. And while the slices are the same as the split shares, the uneducated general public doesn’t know the difference.

Oh yea I completely agree, y’all are making my point. It’s all physiological which is the crazy part to me. Surely companies do this bc they know uneducated investors eat it up....which brings in the smart money early bc they also know retail investors will jump in. It all goes back to the crazy part being that people actually think it’s “cheaper” or getting in now they will get more shares and somehow that means more value.

Everyone here hating on purchasing at the split

I wonder if brk.a did a 3000:1 split if any of you would buy. Why didn't you buy before?

I’m sure the op of this thread was planning on spending more than $450 or whatever apple is trading at pre split

Threads like these make me glad to own it

I don't think that biology has anything to do with it, but I agree with your point.

Well if a stock at 400+ splits 4 ways, I can buy it for just over 100 then it will be worth 400 again almost immediately... right?
