I would not take 2nd round money if I was in this position. Yes I could get hurt but the potential is there for 1st round money in the next year or two.

What is the difference in pay between a late first rounder and an early 2nd rounder?
Posted on 4/5/18 at 4:41 pm to Literalist
Almost none, but first round picks get guaranteed contracts.

Late first rounders make $1.5ish
Early second can get as little as league minimum.

he's probably going late first round

Doesn't he have a window where he can evalute things and choose to return?

but he gone. The Porters seam like a package deal. Senior and junior are gone, doesn't seem like Jontay wants to stay

I say bye
Let's see what we can get in the Grad market for a big man

I like Jontay and he has upside. Having said that I hope he enjoys the D League or riding the pine at the pro level.
The kid could use one more year to man up. His game is soft.

It’s not a good market. More impactful grad transfers are guards and wings. We might be better off seeing if Puryear, Santos and Smith can adequately fill Jontay’s minutes. Add guards/wings with the 3 remaining scholarships. Play smaller, play with more pace and spread teams out.

Just be honest! We are in for a tough year whether Jontay comes back or not next year.
We lost to much scoring and experience, but......

If Jontay were to come back and Mizzou gets a good grad transfer at either PG or on the wing, then I think Mizzou could be better next season. That’s mostly based on my evaluation of what Jontay and Tilmon can be as players.
But without Jontay it’s going to be a step back. I look at it as a year that Cuonzo needs to build a foundation for what could be a pretty good team in 2019-20.

With Jontay leaving then I say we shouldn't even mess with any grad transfers. Try to get a couple more HS players. Preferably Ramey and a big. Go ahead and start the rebuild.

There’s not that many impact type of high school players available right now. Taking grad or juco transfers keeps Mizzou competitive and keeps scholarships open for 2019 and 2020 where there are a lot of regional recruits that are good.

We have 3 scholarships available. You take Ramey and a developmental big. Hopefully you hit. You bank a scholarship.

Banking a scholarship is a terrible strategy when you can take a grad transfer that would help you win now and keep the scholarship open for a potentially deep class.

Yeah, you're right. I was thinking we could take someone that could be here awhile but banking the scholarship does nothing if we can get a 1 yr player instead
