Lespedeza (Lespedeza striata?)
This time of year, I always go with MSM Turf

You’ll really need to put down pre emergent this year as they disperse thousands of seeds

Others have named it. I find that when it comes to this weed MSM combined with Celsius works the best. After you kill it though the plant will still be there. It will just turn to a woody stem.

Thanks for the help. Is it ok to put down MSM and Celsius this time of year? Also, what should I use as a pre-emergant?

ronk when you mix MSM + Celsius what is your mixing rate? Same dosing rate as when using the 2 herbicides separately or a different rate? I never mixed the 2 - just sprayed them separately.

What major weeds frequently discussed on this board do you like to use the mixture vs using either of the herbicides separately?

For a full 4 gallon backpack it is 3.8 grams of MSM and .51 ounces of Celsius. There are 3 main weeds where the combo is better than the stand alone product: VBW, lespedeza, and spurge. It is not a combo I mix often but if I've treated something and it just keeps hanging on or sections of the weed are starting to regrow then I use the combo.

Thanks ronk - I’ll give it a try.

OP - yes you can spray MSM Turf or Celsius this time of year but I’d suggest early morning in this heat. Try not to overspray and do expect some temporary yellowing and stunting of the desirable turfgrass.

As far a pre-emergent, it appears dithiopyr (Dimension) or isoxaben (Gallery) might be the pre-emergents of choice for lespedeza. Here is a good article from the Univ of GA on control options LINK, of course now is not the time to apply pre-emergents for lespedeza - that window has long passed.

Is this known by the slang term "carpetweed", or is that a completely different weed?
