The past few years, after a rainy night, I find dozens of dead terrestrial amphipods - also known as lawn shrimp on my den floor. They are more of an inconvenience than anything. Just curious, anyone else run into these little critters?

Damn you for making me learn something new. Now something has to leave this old brain to make room.

Can't say I've ever seen or heard of them before now-----and I'm 66, so the old saying is not true. "You CAN teach an old dog new tricks-----well, at least new things."

Sorry I can't help, but that is truly an odd situation for sure as I've had spiders, roaches of several species, fleas, mice, rats, silverfish, termites, ants and most other forms of pests in a house at one time or another.

Now I just have stepkids who can't seem to make it on their own for some damn reason, but I've got the remedy to rid the house of that problem soon.

is that those little things we used to call tickle bugs? they curl up in a ball and have sectioned shells like an armadillo

any way you have them getting in then you have issues and need to seal up your walls and foundation before seriously destructive things start moving in. maybe just dig out around your slab so the earth isnt at the same level as the top of the slab anywhere

You are thinking about what we called doodle bugs, some call them pill bugs. Google lawn shrimp and you will see how they get their name. I will admit I need to replace the gasket around my den door. Have lived in this house for 20 years, and never saw them until about 3 years ago. Odd creatures. They leave the soil to escape the water, but die quickly because they have no protection to keep them from drying out.

This? I've seen them before but never had a substantial issue with them. Used to see them when I was a kid on the driveway every now and then. Never alive though, always curled up dead.
