I have been battling a strained neck for what seems like months. It started after sleeping wrong, and it will not go away. I took 2 weeks off from working out to let it heal, and it was plenty of time for me to be completely pain-free. My first workout back, and I immediately re-injured in my 3rd set of incline press. It has been extremely stiff and painful for the last 2 days, and it seems like I'm in a never-ending cycle of rest and re-injure.

Where do I go from here? I'm tired of dealing with the neck issue every time I get back in the gym. I've even bought a nice new pillow to see if that would help out. Should I visit a chiropractor to see if they can do something to fix it for good?

First, there's no substitute for an actual doctor's diagnosis.

Beyond that, maybe start each workout by including some neck stuff in your warmups. Basic stuff like rolls and circles are easy to integrate into thebrest of your warmups.

Assuming you see a doc and have no structural damage, I do light neck work at least 2x a week. You can buy a neck harness for $9.99 on Amazon. Doing light, pumping exercises to keep the muscles strong and loose helps me. I have disc issue that I've been fairly successful in keeping it from getting any worse.

See a doctor, not a chiro. If you need therapy, see a PT.

How’s your posture and form? Sometimes bad posture practices can lead to neck issues and potentially bad lifting form. Look down using your cellphone a lot?

100% see a physician. Also, a message therapist may be able to help if it’s muscular.

First order of business is to figure out if it's muscular or spinal.
