My last political post for a couple years. I don't want to be placed on the no fly list or lose my job for speaking my mind in a public forum. Welcome to America in 2021. In closing, America, you will reap what you have sown.

I think Peter is the one bringing in the downvotes.

Why downvote ? Better to speak your mind. No one is going to change anyone's viewpoints....everyone has beliefs based on their experience in life.

I myself have a belief that is mine. My wife, some good friends etc dont share them but we still care about each other.

This country has changed and we no longer make things, the products now come from all overseas. We are a nation of consumers. There are still hard working people in this country..but manufacturing products is going away. Why? Because billionaires have worked the system and have their products made elsewhere and then shipped here taking American jobs away.

Ok, I will step down from the soapbox.

I will agree with that. It is like life. When you produce you are happy, when you consume you can never be satisfied.

Let’s talk about that. Let’s talk about the thousands of hard working people on the Keystone Pipeline that are about to lose their jobs from the swipe of a pen. In the middle of a pandemic no less.

Let’s talk about the illegal immigrants in detention that were just turned loose into this country.

What about the millions of diabetics that are going to lose their insulin discount that Trump implemented? A discount that a Democrat, the party of free healthcare, just removed.

Having lived here for the better part of a decade, I can say that illegal immigration is absolutely disgusting from a human rights angle. A lot of kids are outright abused/kidnapped from their home countries and forced to beg on the streets here in Mexico City like it's their job. Literally see them every single day, and eventually you know they're just going to be used as leverage to get over the border if they're not abused (in multiple ways) before they make it.

I get that they want a better life, but I don't get why they can't settle here in Mexico where there's no shortage of jobs ever. I don't think they necessarily want to work, they just want an easier life knowing that they can just suck off of the American system and because of their protected class they'll get away with it.

Oh, and you didn't even highlight the vast majority of absolutely dumb shite Biden's done in only a few days, but you definitely hit some good ones. Erased an Executive Order for cheaper Insulin just to fricking spite Trump, we're fricked.

We need to employ the workers that were on the pipeline in building electric charging stations/wind turbines/solar panels at the same or higher wage. We cannot continue to use strictly fossil fuel or we will be dinosaurs in the somewhat close future.

I myself wont have to worry because of my age....but my stepson is 21. We have polluted the air, water and land. It has to change or he will be wearing gas masks to go outside.

As far as immigration, Mexico needs to stop the migration of Honduran, Belizians (sp), and other Central Americans along with Mexicans. Why is Mexico complicent ? I guess they want to purge a lot of undesirables from their country ? Mexico needs to stop people from crossing their border.
I know Mexico has a better economy than other Central American countries (except probably Costa Rico)...hell, we have many plants down and auto manufacturing used to be where all the parts came from ? I guess its cheaper now to use countries like Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia etc etc ?

American companies that employ illegals are partly to blame. But who is going to work on farms picking fruit and vegetables ? Certainly not Americans. Even though a lot of harvesting is somewhat automated...a lot isnt. 40-45 miles from where I live there are thousands of workers picking strawberries, citrus, flowers for florist shops and you name it. Churches in the areas help support a lot of workers.

Great Britain faces a challenge of a large influx of Middle Eastern people that fly in on tourist visas and then dont leave. I watched a documentary on Britian and their border security try to track down the illegals. Of course its easy to find most...just to all the resturants and you'll find them

yeah, right. like that's part of Biden's plan.

i'm all for solar and wind. i just feel like we don't know enough about it, yet to flip the switch on fossil fuels, yet. all that does is hurt consumers and the employees.

Finch, please dont deny me the chance to be silly....in your eyes at least

I have seen up close and personal what the water quality is like in Florida...it used to be beautiful and clear. Not any more...a lot of habitat inshore is now only full of salt water catfish. Blue crabs/oysters once so plentiful are difficult to find in numbers. The Gulf of Mexico is vast but within 15 miles of coast line the water has degraded compared to the '60s. As humans we have done things that would make American Indian tribes in the early 1880s cry.

When I speak of pollution, a lot has already taken place and the future is bleak if we don't take steps to stop it. Think ahead 35-45 yrs from now. Do you drink municipal water from the tap Finch? Hardly anyone does and why is that?

Wasn’t there an effort to link the gulf to the Atlantic by digging a ditch or river or something? A guy from Lakeland was telling me about this. It started in Tampa and went east somewhere. That’s the cause of all the red tides or something.

If it wasnt because of red tide...then 2 or 3 golf courses might have been in peril ?

BTW eating dinner and what's on the menu ? Broccoli from Mexico

On the good news side the US Treasury is now flush with cash from Mexico for building the wall and kicking in a share. I think they said to themselves after that announcement " what is that crazy Gringo thinking? "

Stop all the immigrates...but don't be surprised when salads/ smoothies and vegetable sides go up 40% in costs.

And Finch, you didn't answer the question...do you drink tap water from the faucet??? That answers the water quality issue. And I already know the answer, you drink bottled water like all of us. Years ago this would have been impossible to fathom.

I actually have a Brita pitcher with a filter.

But I don’t think there’s much oil drilling in Indiana.

Good for you Finch....just change the filters often.

Since you brought up the pipeline....did you realize that the pipeline eliminated a lot of good paying jobs in Tx, La, Ms drilling for oil in offshore platforms?

I have fished many of those platforms in fishing tournaments and many rigs have gone bye bye. In fairness, some were the result of hurricanes....but they were never replaced. I fished the delta area of Louisiana, which is rich in resources for seafood. I have seen so many oil rigs disappear that it's sad. The tree huggers dont like offshore drilling..but it has supplied an awful lot of gas and oil.

Those offshore platforms can be huge and have helicopter landing pads...and constant jobs for tug boat like vessels that ferry crews and supplies to them.

But alternative means have to be under taken to prevent further erosion of air quality.

Finch you are in Indiana? I stayed for a while in a tiny village on the Ohio River, Patriot in Switzerland County, the smallest density of population in the state...Patriot was 31 miles from nearest supermarket when I was there in late 1970s. A lot of deer though...twice the size of Florida deer. The whole county was settled by Swiss and the county seat is Veevay (sp), which is a city in Switzerland. That's your history lesson for today.

Nearest neighbor to my step fathers property was almost 1/2 a mile away. Folks were not nearly as friendly as the south.

I know GMC had a plant making trucks about 45 miles away. I think Toyota also had a plant not too far away...of course supervised by Japanese. The Ohio River was splendid for fishing if you like carp that glow in the dark
