The USCwest vs Gators game in 1982, Wilbur was # 88 because he came to UF as a TE...# 30 is James Jones a first round pick, Lorenzo Hampton (7), Neal Anderson (27) and John L Williams were all future first rounders and were frosh, but Hampton was a soph.

Watch Wilbur chase down RBs from the backside, extremely quick...he manhandled a lot of OL even though he was 240.
Enjoy a historic game and we had to travel to Los Angeles to return the favor and tied them 21-21 I think.
Galen Hall was HC then and Mike Shanahan had left as OC and he was a damn good one. Galen was called Capt Kangaroo by many because he was roly poly and looked like the TV kids show star..but you younger guys need to You Tube Capt Kangaroo and then compare to Galen Hall, who I did not care for. Case in point: In the early 1980s we played Rutgers coached by a personal friend of Galen's and we had Rutger down like 14 or 21 to zip. Hall took Kerwin Bell out with plenty of time left and inserted Rodney Brewer who belonged on the baseball diamonds...not a football field. He threw pick, fumbled and before you knew it...we were in danger of losing when we were highly ranked. We ended up tied and what a waste.

Tommy Shannon southpaw from Miami who lost his job as a sr QB to Spurrier. He and the Ball Coach have been friends through the years and Tommy is a big Gator fan. Bob Hewko who started the year in 1980 when we were coming off a 0-10-1 season...Hewko led us to upset opener against California and Steve Bartowski when they were ranked in top 5 as memory serves me. He got injured later and Wayne Peace stepped in. Got to see Bob at Tampa nightspots back in the late 1980s and he was a lot of fun.

Interesting finish to the 1983 UF vs USC game. With UF up 19-13 USC thru an incomplete pass to end the game but...... Tony Lilly was called for a late hit. On the un-timed down, USC thru a TD which tied the game at 19-19. USC lined up to kick the extra point for the win and UF blocked it to end the game in a 19-19 tie. In a couple minutes we went from winning to losing to a tie. I had gone to the 1982 game in Gainesville and listened to the 1983 with my uncle, good times.

I was traveling to New Orleans in 1983 and listen to every minute of the USCwest game in Los Angeles on the radio(God bless Otis Boggs)...without John L. Williams we might have lost that game.

Kerwin Bell was a frosh in 1983, James Jones had left as I recall. but we had John L, Neal Anderson and Hampton plus Wilbur. As I recall, we gave USCw two chances to kick the extra point because of a flag...must've been pac 12 refs

No. 10: JABAR GAFFNEY, WR (2000-01)
In 2000, he caught 71 passes. In 2001, he had 67 receptions. During those two seasons, he recorded a combined 27 touchdown receptions. He ranks fourth on the Gator career list in that category.

# 10 Tyrone Young was a WR during the early 1980s and was one of the favorite targets of Bob Hewko and Wayne Peace. He was 6'6" and very skinny but out leap any DB. I watched him single handily destroy Ga Tech (although Tech had left the SEC we had schedule them long time before for future dates and honored them).

I would swear Young was no more than 180 lbs and 6'6"

Another # 10 was QB Eric Kresser who had the misfortune to come in when Wuerffel was the QB. He had a real live arm was a sr when Danny was also a sr.

Tyrone was an unbelievable talent, but not the hardest worker. He could have been one of the all time greatest.

He died of cancer in 2015 at age 55. RIP

This is how I remember him. He always had a great big smile when he wasn't giving you shite.

I dint know he had passed away...RIP

Don't think he could have been the greatest with his frame..I watched many games that he played in and if he turned sideways he almost disappeared

Dude was strong for being skinny, and he probably went closer to 200 imo.

And we are down to 9. Here is Ray McDonald (Senior). Not to be confused with his son who played DL for the Gators.

Since we skipped days...# 6 is none other than kicker Judd Davis. I had a business connection with Judd's mother years ago and she shared stories about Spurrier and kickers. Some I already knew...like everyone thinks the AU FG in 1966 was Spurriers only FG...not so...he actually kicked four that year.

Spurrier was our leading punter two out of three years he played at UF. In those days almost all teams had QBs who punted and also were holders for extra points or FGs. The one year Spurrier didn't lead the Gators punting totals was when sock footed Hal Seymour punted. The SEC the banned punting or kicking without shoes as I recall.

Anyway when Judd was at UF Spurrier would make FG kickers kick FGs at end of practice when the team's tongues were hanging out. To teach pressure...he made it mandatory to make tough FGs...if the kickers failed, then wind sprints for everyone...or if FGs made, it was shower time.

Of course I come from the era of punting on third downs and "quick kicks". Those were the days of defense won games and you threw 8-10 passes a game. I loved it.

I remember Bear taking an intentional safety to beat the noles many years ago when their coach was Dr Mudra and he coached from the press box. The noles were a very bad team but game Bama all it wanted in a game that was something like 6-5 as memory serves me.

The other # 6 was Jeff Driskel btw.
