We are starting with 25 days, but I will keep this thread and update the title instead of having a new thread every day.

Brandon James

It was must see tv when someone was kicking the ball to him. Even the players taking a breather on the bench all stood up to catch a glimpse.

Brandon James was very important in special teams for Urban and he also played in backfield some and used as a wingback..he was small in stature but tough as nails.

Yes, good one...I couldn't think of a # 24. Now # 23, I always think of Allen Trammel from Eufuala Al. Who played in the mid 1960s and was team mate of Dick Kirk and Bruce Bennett to form a solid secondary. But back in those days of platoon football, Trammell & Kirk both played RB also. Bennett was rarely to my memory used offensively...he was an AA safety and too valuable on defense.

Trammel did take a pick six against the noles in 1965 in what was a close game in the fourth qt until Spurrier got us the lead late.

I could have sworn that Gaffneys jersey number was something like 88 or 89..but memory isn't as sharp as it used to be he played mostly as WR and stayed in the NFL for 6 years with the Jets. Trammel played one year with Houston. This from my 1993 media guide.

I think the 99 yd pass was in 1977 against Rice at their house and it was raining. Collinsworth was not a very good QB and was switched to WR the next season and the rest is history. His jersey btw was # 21 I believe.

UF over it's history has had some great #22s.

John L Williams IMO is underappreciated in UF lore. The 1984 backfield of Williams, Anderson and Hampton was as good as any in UF history. He was a pounding back that had a very good NFL career after leaving UF.

Terry Jackson
2 Willie Jacksons
Steve Tannen
Reggie Lewis
Matt Elam
Lamichal Perine

To name a few more.

If I were starting a college football team from ground up then John L. Williams would be my RB. He won many games for us with breakaway runs, one handed catches etc etc.

He was a RB first and and moved to FB to help the team, he blocked for Neal Anderson and Lorenzo Hampton.

Another FB who played for us in that era was James Jones and the foursome were ALL NFL first round picks. Williams played for Seattle and actually led the NFL in receptions several years...really good hands. Jones had a long career with Detroit, Hampton's career was cut short by an knee injury with the Dolphins and Anderson played for Chicago.

NO. 21: CRIS COLLINSWORTH, WR (1977-1980)
Also considered: Frankie Neal, WR (1983-85); Fred Taylor, RB (1994-97); Major Wright, S (2007-09)
Other notable: DeShawn Wynn, RB (2003-06)
The skinny: It takes some kind of ballplayer to top Taylor, and Collinsworth was exactly that. In fact, he's probably one of the 10 most beloved Gators of all time. Collinsworth was a two-time AP second-team All-American, a three-time first-team All-SEC pick (once while on a winless team) and an academic All-American. He also was a total stud in the NFL. Taylor was great; but the kid known as "Cadillac" is a legend.

Also Fred Taylor

And Kelvin Taylor

Father and son #21's at UF is pretty cool!

Tony Lilly #18. One of the hardest hitting, meanest, dirtiest Gators ever.

Receivers feared going across the middle when Lilly was in the game!
