Hey guys, I do YouTube videos regarding LSU and their opponent, so I like to get to know that opponent a little bit.

What’s the outlook for you guys this year? Who are your best players on both sides of the ball? Assumed strengths and weaknesses? Thanks!

I think our ceiling this year is 5-5. I think we go 4-6, winning one game we’re not supposed to (TAMU/Auburn) and losing a game that we aren’t supposed to (Mizzou/Ole Miss).

Osiris Mitchell is a player to watch. 6’5 WR who will be our #1 guy. Hoping for Austin Williams WR to have a breakout year. Errol Thompson LB is an experienced talented player. Essentially the QB of our defense.

Strengths: QB, RB, O-Line, K

Weaknesses: DB, DL, Depth

This team won’t be winning any games from behind. Our best hope is to jump out on teams. Kylin Hill will be a huge factor out of the backfield. Look for big receivers to stretch the field, but a lot of checkdowns to Hill running angles and flats.

Here is my take:

Defense

If you can't run up the score on us, you won't on anyone in the SEC. Mullen and Moorhead didn't leave the cupboard bear but they left it lacking in a couple places plus a couple players left after the latest coach change.

Our front 7 is solid if not great.

Dline - State has about 4 DL that will be good with some middle to late round NFL talent. Spencer, Crumedy, Pickering and Jones. There is young unknown talent behind them but some were good recruits.

LB's Thompson maybe one of best MLB in the SEC with Brule & Davis and showing promise

CB's and Safeties Weakest scariest part of D - One solid starter at CB and the others that contribute will all be young. The safeties are OK but I will have to see them perform before I grade one NFL worthy.

Overall D is not expected to be near the level of recent history with so many young players having to contribute and no superstars but they could be better than expected.

Offense:

It's Leech - they are going to throw it a lot

OLine is really really good with 5 star Cross at the LT position.. Probably the best group State has had in a long time and State has had some good OLines

QB- KJ Costello - Big arm Stanford transfer expected starter Will Rogers true freshman backup - KJ still needs to work on consistently making the easy throw catch-able for run after the catch but he has been improving. Leech's QB's have to be able to throw a catch-able ball for RAC yards or his offense is not effective. It's more important than a big arm which obviously KJ has that.

RB - Maybe one of the the best RB rooms in the conference on a team that won't run the ball. Kylin Hill led SEC in rushing last year and lots of talent behind him. Hill decided against the draft last year. Not sure why, how much better you going to be than lead SEC in rushing? Maybe he was intrigued to show he can catch the ball out of backfield?

WR - Supposedly Weakest group on Of or thought to be... Lots and lots of bodies that were 4 star recruits. One has to think some of these guys will step up with the new coaching focus. Former high 4 Star Bama transfer Shavers has not cracked the two deep yet but he is making a push. That sounds promising.

Leech's offense will be the key..

Quick passes to offset pass rush with wide splits and make LSU defend the whole field. 50 yards wide and 15 yards deep is the focus but don't think they won't take shots deep, they will do that as the QB gets time.

It's not a hurry up offense, just a passing offense with many being long hand off's that spreads the ball around to 7 or 8 guys.

I am cautiously optimistic for the first year. No spring training and no experience with this offense. Lots of 4-6 and 5-5 guesses for a season.

They win one they aren't supposed to and lose one as well is the consensus. If everything clicks... who knows, all teams are so different this year

Special teams

I feel good about the kickers and punters as group. They are veterans there that have performed well.

Some coaches put a lot of emphasis on ST and others don't. I hear Leech does but who knows what that group will actually bring, I don't.

FYI, after listening to some more information, that idea that you won't run the score up on anynoe if you don't do it to State is getting stronger.

Dang, that defense needs a to fill a bunch of positions. CB's LB's Safeties, Depth of DL, what's left? water boy?

There is a lot of young talent but no one has seen them do a thing and even a known like Thompson at MLB is not effective unless that DL can tie up that OL. It could be a long year for State's D..

The offense could be better than expected considering.... no offseason, no spring, strong arm QB having to learn touch in just a few weeks. KJ is good, he just has to learn a new skill set... Maybe he stays two years if it takes awhile to click.

Gotta say I hit the nail on the head here. Missed on my predictions, but I’ll gladly take that L.
