What did you guys expect from the defense?

We were getting torched last year and we had Bolton. In the front seven we’re literally the same or worse. I don’t get everyone freaking out. This is what we saw last year against Alabama,Florida, Georgia, state, LSU, Arkansas, and Tennessee.

I expected them to stop someone......anyone.....we have an NFL guy coaching them so expectations should be somewhat "high"

If you look at our defensive line weights and expect them to stop people you’re delusional

To not be the worst defense in P5?

I expected the same as last year. Our edge rushing was starting to come on at the end of the year, so I thought that would help offset Bolton leaving. Isnt Green a bigger CB? If so, sounds like maybe he should be used a lot more.

We were a nick bolton away from being one of the worst last year.
Just looked up last years defense. Total defense around 65th in fbs and gave up 408 yards a game.
You must remember when it played Vanderbilt and Kentucky with runningback playing quarterback.

We are lacking in talent, sure…but we aren’t THIS bad.
Something is rotten. Hopefully they can make at least some improvement because the offense is going to be pretty good, I think.
Just make a bowl this year and KEEP RECRUITING

We’ve sucked on defense for about 4 years now. I thought losing our best defensive player was going to yield great results and we’d be good.
Sounds like Nebraska fan logic or LSU logic (both suck a little more everyday). Reality is new coordinator, undersized (by about 50 pounds. Are we Nebraska fans who cry about hires now after two games?

I don’t really see anybody crying about the hire, but we also shouldn’t be this bad.
As you said though. It’s 2 games. I don’t expect shutdown but we need to be much better going forward.

I think as we play some teams with lesser olines than we have faced, we will stop looking statistically as atrocious. Tennessee, SC, Vandy, BC, SEMO and the other non-con. Arky, Georgia will do whatever they want on O. A&M and FL will probably do well against us, though I don't know much about their offenses.
Some of the results are who we have played, learning a new system, and a coach new to the college level.
We are definitely undersized on DL and LB. I hope some young LBs can earn significant playing time this season. Evans should be in on 90% of plays, unless his play drops off from so much workload.

You’re conflating Tigerboard with here. No one here has complained about hires.

Well by damn, _I'll_ complain about the hires. Did you notice that as soon as Desiree Reed-Francois was hired, we got beat? Coincidence? Don't think so. I say she should be on a short damned leash. And what about Wilks? In the past 21 seasons, he's coached for 12 different teams. That should tell you something.
And I heard there's an audio/visual guy that just plain isn't worth a shite.
A couple more football loses and Mr. No-experience Drink should be shown the door.
And he can take Gonzo with him.

What are you really complaining about when you complain about scheme? Who decides the scheme?
Or is it we start a defensive line that’s all under 290 pounds?
And I never said it was okay. It just is what it is. Front seven is the same or lesser players. Our linebacker who covered a lot up is gone. I didn’t expect to take any steps forward, at least on the field, this year in rushing defense. We lost the best player on an already dismal front.

I actually think we have some good players - Blaze, Trajan, Martez and Rakestraw.
What we don't have is good in-game adjustments.
This is the defensive version of Derek Dooley a few years ago.

Blaze is slow footed but he makes big plays. In the run game you just don’t run at whatever side jeffcoats on and that’s what they’ve been doing. I think our dline is alright in passing downs, but basically our guys just get pushed around up front. I don’t know what scheme cures that. I’m not trying to be sarcastic I just don’t.

Aldredge puts up stats, but seems out of position a lot. the other 3 are good, and Evans and Green seem good to me also. Also Carlies.
Seemed like our defense improved as the CMU game went on. Also seemed like we improved as Kentucky game went on, but I couldn't tell if they were just embarrassed to run it on us so repeatedly.

Who’s complaining about the scheme? Not me.
