Honestly kind of a meh hire.

Curious, how did you feel about Lemonis when you guys hired him?

I think this is a solid hire — a young guy who has been to the CWS more than Bianco has. I’d give it a B.

After hyping Corbin, Casey, and Godwin this just feels so meh. He’s not a bad coach tho.

Corbin was always a ridiculous rumor. Casey is too old and retired 3 years ago because he was burned out. That would not have been a wise hire regardless if he may have been good in the short term. I liked Godwin a lot but doesn’t appear Woodward felt the same. He’s not markedly different than Johnson either other than bring familiar with the area

Team built for a small ballpark. Won't cut it in Omaha.

B+

JJ has succeeded at every stop. LSU has the resources and desire to allow him to make their teams yearly CWS contenders.

I think he’s a B at this point but could end up an A+

-young at 44
-top recruiter
-winner everywhere he’s been
-great hitting coach

If he ends up hiring a big time pitching coach (which he should with his budget), I don’t see why he won’t win a lot of games at LSU.

LSU went for a hitters’ coach after seeing that pitching is stretched super thin in the post season.

Johnson has 11 of his players hitting over .300

A

I'll give it a C+ for now. No higher than B- and that's only because no matter what the LSU fans say, he wasn't their #1 guy.

Definitely not the splash they were looking for but if O can get them to play for a football natty this guy sure as hell can do it in baseball.

I don't understand why he's not a splash but Vitello would have been. Because we would have taken him from another school in our conference? On paper JJ is a better candidate than Vitello and he doesn't act like an arse all the time.

I have to admit he wasn’t in my top 5 in the beginning, but the more I read, watched, and heard about him, the more I like the hire. Really wanted Godwin or Gautreau though.

I think for Johnson to have big time success in the SEC, he has to make a home run for his pitching coach hire. But hey, what great team doesn’t have a great pitching coach? But his offense and recruiting should be an A.

Overall I’d say B+

Gonna depend on who he gets as pitching coach.

So - is Dunn gone? My son had a pitcher sign with LSU this year. Just wondering if Alan will be there to coach him this summer?

Don't know much about the guy. Ask again in a couple of years. LSU is an elite program and I'd assume that their AD hired someone significantly better than Smoke Laval.
