Herb was missing them long too which tells me you are really struggling. They weren't even that close.

Herb clearly lost his shot at some point in mid-February. His free throws looked worse and obviously the whole 0-30 3PT thing.

He was never smooth but he'd figured out something that worked. That all seemed to kind of leave him the last 3-4 weeks.

You won't like my take but I believe that left and his play dropped when he started feeling himself.

You can tell his attitude changed and he became less hard hat and more bright lights.

With the added ego came the offensive inefficiency, drop in focus defensively, etc.

The irony was after we won the SEC he was claiming "no pressure" when he struggled the entire tournament. He continued those struggles the NCAA tourney which culminated into him missing FTs which could have sealed the game.

Before someone attacks me, I'm not hating on Herb. He is suppose to be out leader out there, our best defender.. heck our best player but for some weeks now that hasn't been the case. Our leader has been Quin and Reese through actions. Our best player has been Quin and our best defender has been Keon.

When our leader implodes like that it is almost impossible to recover. The worst thing that happened to this team was Herb believing the hype. It changed him to our detriment.

Hate it for Herb bc he was the leader of this team and did so many little things to help us win games . Having said that , he has never been a shooter. It was better this year early on but he shoots set shots which you don’t see at this level anymore . 3 pt attempts is just not his game . He is a slasher

Lots of people missing free throws, Petty and Shack just having terrible offensive sets at important points in the game, Reese was banged up, Ellis limited minutes.

Just too much to overcome in a single game. Can't really point at any one thing because if we play better in any one or two of the many identifiable areas, we win the game in regulation.

All that said, Herb and Petty brought bama basketball back and this game will have minimal bearing on their legacy in the long run.

Oh no, I am definitely not blaming Herb or any individual for the loss . Just responding to other posts concerning Herb. He gets most of his points on drives , put backs , dunks etc. He has struggled from mid range/ outside since he got on campus . Not a knock just stating the obvious

One last thing about the season. I am very proud of the success the team had this season. I've been a Bama Basketball fan for a long time. I remember the '76 game with Indiana. We were on the bad end of some questionable calls in that game as we were last night. We had a bad night it happens. But I always saw hustle and determination each and every game, and as a former Coach, that's what I always ask for night in and night out. As poorly as we played last night if any of a number of of the calls we had go against go our way, we win. The ball going off of Petty's shorts, Gary got hammered under the basket right before he fouled out and a no call. Oates was visibly upset about that call. The charge no call right before they scored the go ahead basket. 3 critical calls that if any had went our way, we win even with the cold shooting and poor free throw shooting. The one thing we can hang our hat on is that this team played hard and gave themselves a chance to win and that is something I can say I am proud of as we move forward. I don't post much, but I do want to thank those who do and share the informative material on here. We were close guys, May God bless and Roll Tide!

This is why I will forever hate those mother frickers. It’s one thing to poke fun and talk shite to your rival. It is a whole other level to celebrate and revel in your rivals defeats to that degree which they continuously seem to do. Just like they did when Clemson beat us for the natty. frick them and the horse they rode in on. I wouldn’t piss on them if they were on fire. They are truly the most classless, insecure fanbase in the SEC, if not the nation, and that’s saying a lot with LSU in the league.

To be fair, Auburn literally hasn't had anything to celebrate in any sport since the 2019 Iron Bowl.

It makes them look really pathetic.

Yep, the team continuously battled back when other teams would fold. Even with everything that went wrong last night, still able to climb back from an 11 point lead at half, got down by 7 or 8 points late in the game and forced OT.

The game didn't go our way, and I with they could have crowned the season with an Elite 8 appearance but can't complain about anything this season.

One thing to consider about Primo being ineffective last night and not playing much. Don’t forget, last night was only his second game back from injury and he was probably rusty and maybe not have been 100% and may have even aggravated the injury some against Maryland. That’s one thing that worries me about next year; Oats has had some shitty 2019 football team luck regarding injuries.

You're right. I hate that made up take. Pretty much all of the hard hat numbers increased towards the end of the season.

You might be the only person I know that thinks that a drop in shooting percentages is because of an INCREASE in confidence. Also, what drop in defensive focus are you talking about? It's imaginary.

Herb's SECT Numbers: 13.7 ppg, 5.7 apg, 10.3 rpg, 2.3 spg, 2.3 bpg and only 2.3 topg. Only thing with his numbers that was below average was his FG% at 39% which was heavily influenced by him missing on his deep ball (0-7 in the SECT).

quote:

Our best player has been Quin and our best defender has been Keon.

Our best offensive player has been Quinerly for a while now. Offense is not why Herb was selected SEC POY. I love Keon and think his on-ball defense is terrific, but he's not a better defender than Herb. Herb provides every aspect of defense (on-ball defense, team defense, rim protection, and steals) and delivers it at an elite level. There is no statistical backing for Herb being worse defensively down the stretch.

In the postseason, the only statistical drop off was 3pt percentage and FT percentage (which was strictly because of his last game; shot 81% from the line otherwise). Pretty much everything else was better than his season averages (some of them dramatically better like rebounding, blocks, and 2FG%).

It's ridiculous to call Herb (of all people) egotistical and imagine him as anything less than a stellar defender down the stretch of the season just because he missed some FTs in his last game and lost his 3pt shot at the end of the season. You're letting the very few negatives affect your view of all of the positives.

While I think it's pathetic, it was likely just a bunch of college kids that did it, and it's a heated rivalry. I didn't outwardly express joy, but it gave me great satisfaction when they lost to UVA in the Final 4 like they did. Had I been in college at the time, I might have done something stupid and dare I say classless.

That said, my Twitter feed last night was a complete mess of Auburn fans gloating over the loss and reminding Bama fans that Auburn had made a Final 4 while Bama never has. And a lot of it was from grown men in their 40's.

I think we'll be a significantly better team

I really, really agree. Our bench play showed a lot of promise.

I'm hoping this equates to the 2008 football season, when Saban was in his second year. That team was full of lovable (and leftover) upperclassmen that found a way to have a special season, but couldn't overcome the bright lights in the SEC Championship against Florida, and fell apart in the postseason.

But we all know what that 2008 season propelled the program towards, starting the next year and beyond.

Sorry for the football reference, but I just can't get the comparison out of my head. Probably crimson-colored glasses at this point, but I'm just as excited for next year as I was going into this one.
